Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The condo itself was great. The views of the mountains and distant views of the slopes were spectacular. The pool and hot tub were nice, but the hot tub is very small and always full. The parking shuttle situation is inconvenient, but not the worst. Getting to Sugar to ski took about 20 minutes between the 2 separate shuttles you have to catch— while wrangling all of your gear. The staff at the front desk are very nice, but if you ask about skiing, they say they know nothing about that and direct you to Sugar’s website. The trouble with Sugar Top is that it isn’t close to skiing or restaurants, and you have to catch a shuttle to get to your car so you can even drive to get to anything.

The views here cannot be beat. 🏔️ The building itself is a little old and could use some TLC and renovations in the common areas, pool restrooms/ locker rooms. However our particular unit was renovated and very nice! We stayed in #2908 which is one floor below the top floor. Out host was amazing and responsive. Bring binoculars! Watching the sunset over the mountains and the snow rolling in was a nightly favorite for my family. As others have mentioned parking is inconvenient. As is check in and check out due to limited loading space out front. That being said, all staff were doing their best with what they were given. Everyone was kind, accommodating and efficient. I would certainly stay here again. The proximity to Boone and Banner elk was great. Bring snow chains for your car as the high elevation certainly brings more snow than the valley.

Booked through VRBO. Condo and facility as a whole were thoroughly cleaned. All amenities were working and well maintained. Pool/spa were wonderful! Each staff member encountered was welcoming, informative, and seemed to enjoy their job. Issue free trip! If you're thinking of booking, DO IT! SugarTop exceeded our expectations in all areas.

The hotel really disrupts the beautiful view from on top of Grandfather Mountain. Totally misses the point of preserving scenic landscapes. Giant eyesore. We need to protect nature and spots for us to be one with it

The resort is outdated and it shows. Pools and spas were dirty. The shuttle system is not ideal and you cannot park on the property. There were other issues but the bottom line is this is not a user friendly accommodation for amenities, ease of transportation or skiing. For the money, you can stay at the Sugar Ski and Country Club and have true ski-in and ski-out accommodations where you can actually park on-site at your unit.

No Restaurant or bar on premise or close by. No stores close by. Place is over 40yrs old and looks it. Parking is TERRIBLE!!! Have to park down the Hill and wait for Bus to pick you up, to take you to Condo. Every Condo is privately owned and different inside. Poll was SO HOT walking into area.

The Parking- a total nightmare. The interesting part is that they know it’s a nightmare and they do not care about fixing it. The staff is rude and their favorite thing to say to people, “are you an owner?” If not they treat you like trash. They have over 100 spots they will not let you park in at the top reserved for “owners” that are not there. They run one shuttle van that takes you down the mountain to lots marked C-G. They also have 2 elevators to get people to their condos and of course one is broke. This place was built in 1983. If they haven’t figure this stuff out in 40’years I doubt they will! Stay at your own risk!

Do not stay here, the front desk staff is incompetent. Waited on the elevator over an hr then The lady driving the shuttle bus made myself my wife and three young children walk down the mountain in the cold rain with plenty of open seats on the bus because one young punk wouldn’t move over where we could fit. A lady on the 8th floor where we were waiting was having chest pains once we finally carried all of our luggage down the stairs I told the front desk workers and they didn’t even care. I hope she is ok and I hope she sues this place for their incompetence

If you are looking to take a trip back to 1980 something, this is the place to visit. Facility is old and outdated and there is no air-conditioning, anywhere in the building. Thats probably fine 300 days a year but not in July and August! The views are indeed spectacular provided you are inside the building looking out, not vice-versa. Unit we rented was a bit outdated but clean and the balcony was the highlight. The pool was a nice break from the heat. Did I mention that there is NO AIR-CONDITIONING?!
