We stayed in a cabin as a family of 4 for 7 nights in January. Regardless of the rest of our experience at the Big 4, I’d never stay here again due to the complete lack of enforcement of the 8km/h speed limit by the park operators. The park is full of children on bikes and scooters. The main thoroughfare from the entry gate, whilst signposted at 8km/h, is very long, has absolutely no speed bumps, the 8km/h signage painted on the road has faded away, and there is no attempt by the park to enforce the speed limit. I complained at reception. Alarmingly, reception, acknowledged that they had received the same complaint from other guests, and that maybe they would consider sending a text message to guests at the park to slow down. They never sent a text message. As I persevered, reception responded that during the less busy months, they might consider some other options to slow down cars. I then proceeded to inform reception that a child had only that week, been killed by a car at a Holiday Park in NSW. Reception confirmed they were aware of that, yet, yet no action was taken to manage the speed limit in the park during my stay. My suggestion to the park is the addition of many speed bumps, repaint the 8km/h road signage so it is clearly visible, erect additional 8km/h signs around the park and, as I’ve seen in other Big 4 parks, install clear signage that 8km/h is ‘walking pace’ due to the high number of children on site. The park is, in my view, failing in it’s duty of care to families and children which this park is targeted at. It made our stay stressful and unenjoyable as our kids (6yo and 4yo) were at risk, and this is after traveling all the way from Victoria with their scooters. This is the sixth Big 4 I’ve stayed at, so have a good basis for what speed limits in these parks look like.…
