Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This motel is very dated smells moldy and the so called kitchen did not have a working stove we stayed 5 nights and had to spray the room and finally bought a candle to try to hide the moldy smell. Beds were ok to sleep in and they had to give us a microwave as none was in the rooms. Bathroom was clean as it could be for a very dated motel. We did have a flat screen tv. The air conditioning worked as well as the heat. Restuarant was across the street and had a very nice breakfast. I would not stay again would try another motel if going back to Watkins Glen.

Stayed there for one night. Good choice at an excellent price for overnight accommodations. Only a couple of miles from the main area of Watkins Glen. The room was well maintained; the minor issue that we had was addressed quickly.

Hardworking owner/operator who wears all hats. She even cleans rooms and provides guest services. Do not know how she handles a full motel. This stay was pleasant because of the huge lawn out front with a couple large willow trees to bask beneath during the hot summer days. Also this place is pet friendly and our lab loved the lawn area. She included hot coffee, muffins and fruit for breakfast. Nice touch.

I booked a week at this hotel off Expedia for a price of $ 91.00 per night plus tax. This was also the price on Travelocity, Trivago, and AAA Travel. Then I am told by this Motel cannot honor my looked in price, saying they changed their rates before I booked. These are still the price listed on all the above sites today. They wont get my business and I am encourging all these sites to stop advertising for this Motel.

The motel rooms are not maintained. Some clear warning signs; The dingy, yellow plastic smoke detector says "REPLACE DETECTOR BY THE YEAR 2004" and you can't see an indicator light to show it is working (15 years later). The toilet has a sign that says "PLEASE BE SURE TOILET STOPS RUNNING", yet mine will not flush properly to clear waste. In addition, the paint is pealing off the wall, there is a ring of soap scum in the tub, tile grout is stained, the room curtains had to manually be altered so they would close for privacy, and the sheets are old and yellowed (luckily the pillowcases are white). The ad said "best value", but I wonder what could be worse. The owners should make an investment to significantly improve the premises! I won't stay here again!

This place has deteriorated. We were surprised that we were the only ones staying there. But after staying there we had to believe there was a reason. The paint was peeling both inside and out. The ice machine was broken. The electric light and outlet in the bathroom was broken and we had to use a flashlight to find out toothbrush. The shades didn’t block the light and the sun came in the morning and woke us up. I thought at first that this vintage 1950’s motel was quaint, but it wasn’t. It was run down.

Our friends joined me and my husband for 2 nights at the Chieftain Motel on Seneca Lake the weekend of November 16-18. The reason for our visit in the Finger Lakes was to attend the Keuka Lake Christmas Holiday Wine Tour. We found the location of the motel to be good both for going into Watkins Glen and to go over to Keuka Lake. The rooms were super clean and comfortable and reasonably priced. The staff was very friendly. The continental breakfast was adequate. We will definitely be contacting them again next year when we go back for the wine tour.

This is an old fashioned drive up to the door motel set on a hill with a view of Seneca Lake. We enjoyed a 4 day stay. Very basic and clean, nice fluffy towels! Breakfast has great coffee (with half and half). Packaged muffins, danish and fresh fruit from 7-11Am. Bed was comfy and we had a mini fridge. Wi-fi was also good. Picnic table on the lawn. Ice machine. Well water here! Many wineries within a few minutes drive. Easy drive south to Watkins Glen State Park.

I would expect to pay a lot more for a motel of this quality. We payed 70 - 80 for a night, and got a 2 bedroom (Two queens, pull out couch, TV, WIFI and desks) and 2 bathrooms (One with a bath larger than my own), and everything was very clean, comfortable and welcoming. The woman at the counter was unbelievably sweet, and made sure we were accommodated for. We had a party of 3, and the pull out couch was set up upon arrival! Felt more like I was staying at my grandmothers than at a motel. Location was great with a beautiful view and picnic space. I would recommend no hotel higher than this one, and we will for sure be staying here next time we visit the Glen.

We like the little drive to your door motel. This place was super clean, but in desperate need of updating and TLC and plumbing work. Angela , the manager was SUPER friendly and helpful.Overall, we had a nice stay.
