Clearly this hotel doesn't care about its reviews because it is worse than ever. I had the unfortunate obligation to stay there due to certain circumstances. I spent one night there and the pompous attitude, poor service and general rudeness of the staff was worse than ever.

We went there with our daughters for MLK WE with our daughters and took two rooms. Nice and cozzy rools at a not too expensive prive because of the season. Lunch was good Diner too much expensive.

I live in the area and go from time to time but it is just not worth it. The food is OK but the all male staff are beyond rude, especially the bartenders who have worked there for 14 years, The bimbo hostess with her her clompy shoes just makes the experience more unpleasant. I don' t know why anyone... More

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. When we arrived there was no parking and no one offered to help us with our luggage. The staff were rude and pompous. I had to beg to be able to print some documents on their office computer...no business amenities whatsoever. They are very proud of their restaurant, but the presentation and... More

It's very simple. The food at the American Hotel Restaurant is definitly good and there are some very nice servers, BUT, the chances of getting one of those servers is a complete crap shoot. AND - unless Vinnie is at the Bar, the bartenders are RUDE and act like they're doing you a big favor. I accidently spilled a glass... More

Well the food and company were outstanding, but I couldn't believe how horrendous the service was. To sum it up they were forgetful, and did not pay attention to us. It really put a damper on the meal.

Special occasion lunch. The food was wonderful. Too bad our waiter felt it necessary to to insult us with a few clever thinly veiled insults. Asking us where we live and offering his guess of a less desirable town before we could answer was rude. Won't be back .

You can just feel the cultural ambience in the American Hotel, that's what I love about this place. The number of artists over the years who have lived upstairs and then ate/drank/wrote downstairs. It's in the air. And it's located right in the middle of what isn't a town with the name Hampton in it, but which is the way... More

I've been here twice this summer, with and without children. It is a great place if you like your comforts and don't mind that they come wrapped in antique format. The rooms are surprisingly comfortable. The main building does get noisy; if that bothers you, ask for a room facing back in the townhouse (attached building) next door. For famiies,... More

My husband and I were just driving around Long Island and after finding a B&B in the Hamptons that was $295 a night, we drove over to Sag Harbor and saw the American Hotel. Booked a night for $175, (I guess a bargain in New York) and got a huge room with a bathroom to dream about! Great tub, lots... More
