My husband and I had talked about staying at the El Rancho Hotel for a couple of years, so on a recent trip from Albuquerque to Phoenix we made reservations to spend the night. I was impressed when making the reservation that they got back to me via email, letting me know that reservations were made. Upon arrival at the... More

Sitting eating we order a alcohol beverage both of us being from Texas and having the same driver license. They refused my co-worker who was 22 saying his valid ID was not acceptable but they accepted mine. Me being white, thought they were being racist! I will not consider going back! More

Negative reports were food for thought, but I still wanted to stay here. I love historical buildings and opt for trying the dated accomodations every time. The lobby was wonderfully decorated and maintained and my first impression was of rich, old patina and the wonderful old stone fireplace. The room was adequately sized for two plus luggage and the beds... More

I planned my tour of the southwest and decided that I would spend two nights at the El Rancho, despite some negative reports and because I wanted to avoid chain hotels. If you are a stranger to Gallup, then approaching the hotel may give you cause for concern as the area is not particularly welcoming. However, the hotel is a... More

We were booked here by our Route 66 tour leader...His choice not ours. Although the room is clean, there is only one power point and the bathroom must hold the record for being the smallest. The hot water tap in the basin was broken with jaggered edges and the plug surround was rusty. This report is being written from the... More

You have to give the El Rancho points for the cool factor. This is a historic property and you know that before you book or register. To change anything in the rooms would detract from the historic value. The room was clean and comfortable, yes the bathroom was small but that's how they were back in the day. The meal... More

We spent one night in this hotel and it is last time. Our room had one electrical outlet, paint was peeling on ceiling, worn out bed cover, bathroom is so small that you have to go outside to turn around, when you in a shower and someone in hotel flashes toilet, you are without water! All this for $89.00 a night.... More

This hotel was built in the early 1900's, so that's the style of the rooms and the hotel. Everything was clean, comfortable and with the hotel having a great restaurant and bar in house it took less than 2 mins to walk to the room. It was fun thinking about what movie star once stayed in that same room (We... More

This hotel is undeniably beautiful and full of history - unfortunately, it's surrounded by very busy roads and lots of aggressive locals! We didn't feel very safe leaving the hotel to walk around, even in the day. People shouted at us from their cars and leered at us as we walked along. However, I know that's not the El Rancho's... Interesting and elegant this hotel is really lovely to stay in. It's got all mod cons but takes you back to the 50's with its style. Beautiful sweeping staircases in wood greet you in the lobby and there is a fascinating gallery of movie star photos. The rooms, all named after movie stars who slept in them, are attractive and...
