Stayed in the cottage for 1 night as family of four. Well equipped, nicely decorated, very clean and comfortable. Nice pool. But the service...just amazing. We wanted to stay for one night on our way from Knysna to Cape town. Everything was fine, clean rooms, small pool, friendly service. But nowhere to go to near. From 6 p.m. the area seemed absolutely deserted. Nice little shop.

Spent 24 hours in Swellendam and African Shades was a nice stopover. Clean and spacious room, nice staff. Loved the reastaurant across the street, La Connection.

African Shades is a nice B&B with cute appartments. It is the ideal place to spent a night on the way from Cape Town to Mosselbay where the Garden Route starts. The staff is very nice and helpful.
