We have had the pleasure to stay twice in Oortuiging Cottage, part of the Akademie Street hotel with entrance from the street. Very convenient to have the car parked outside. Fascinating photos in the sitting room of the cottage back in the 1890's when it was used as a recruiting centre by the British administration. The cottage has been up... More

My wife, 2 teenagers and I spent 2 nights at Akademie in early May. We had a wonderful experience. The property and rooms are charming, and the staff are warm and hospitable. I would highly recommend the property

Unfortunately only able to stay one night, but what a pleasure it was! Hazel, Arthur and their team were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home from the outset. We stayed in Gelatenheid and I can't recommend this unit highly enough! Akademie St's location is also very convenient and only a very short walk into the heart of... More

Well, I am not quite sure where to begin. Akademie Street is just perfect. From the individual house, to the amazing breakfasts to the highly attentive and personalised service. We were there for 5 nights, but could easily have stayed longer. From the first e-mail exchange to make our booking, through to the post stay request for feedback, they did... More

If you want privacy, excellent service, and a nice decorated and confortable room, this is the place to stay in Franschhoek. The staff is extremely polite and helpful. The breakfast is superb. Furthermore, it is also well located: just a short walk top reach all main restaurants and shops. We stayed at the Vreugde Cottage, which has a private veranda... More

Highly enjoyable stay with an amazing unparalleled breakfast. The staff could not have been more helpful. For example we mentioned we might like to cycle at breakfast and bikes were arranged immediately. So thoughtful. If I had to make one minor observation I would say that I found the huge painting of the lady hanging next to the bed in... More

The ambiance, hospitality and comfort of the hosts and facility are extraordinary. Unfortunately the weather did not permit us to enjoy the private pool in our compound but it would have been the icing on the cake. The room is well appointed and bedding, bath and shower are all top drawer. Sitting on the veranda and enjoying the evening was... More

My husband, 15 month old son and I spent a week staying here in March and had the most amazing time. We stayed in Gelatenheid, which is a simply stunning 'room'. In fact, it is a detached two storey house with its own garden and a lovely pool. Handily, it has its own front door so we could park right... More

I was travelling on my own to Franschhoek and can't imagine a better experience! Hosts, Kathryn and Arthur were a wealth of local knowledge - giving me great information on the restaurants, wineries and fabulous hikes in the area. They took the time to find out just what I was looking for and their recommendations were bang on each time.... More

My wife and I spent 2 nights at Akademie earlier this month. We stayed at 5 different guesthouses on our trip and we enjoyed Akademie as much as any we visited. The location is great and the accommodations are beautiful. Fantastic breakfast as well. What set this guesthouse apart was Hazel, who helps run Akademie. She was so kind and... More
