We have been to the lodge twice in the last year as a part of AMC Family Adventures. We just returned from the AMC Family Winter Exploration trip over the past 3 days. It was an awesome family trip. We brought our 4 and 6 year old girls and they had a blast. We snowshoed for the first time (free... More

Got a chance to meet up with other AMC Rhode Island members for a perfect weekend in this quaint, clean, beautifully accessible lodge. Perfect for families and even better for adult campers. The food is great, the 'croo' incredibly helpful, and the trails offer something for every level of hiker. This is the southern most AMC hut and that makes... More

Cardigan Lodge is a good outdoors 'get away' even if you aren't there for the hiking. But be forewarned, it's not the easiest place to find. Don't bother with GPS as it's rendered inoperable once you get in the vicinity . Follow a traditional map and the directions provided on their website. In the most fastidious way, the Lodge represents... More

Thanks for your review. We really appreciate your feedback. Cardigan is a historic hiking and skiing lodge celebrating its 75th anniversary next year. While some of our rooms are cozy, we do have some larger rooms with double beds, and some of these have private baths. The socializing usually occurs in our public spaces, and our guests rave about the... More

Tom Fisher, the lodge master and his team, can not do enough to make your stay more than expected. The location, at the trail head for multiple hikes, is fantastic. The lodge uses locally, organically grown vegetables. In the fall the nearby apple orchard features freshly pressed, non-filtered, non-pasterized apple juice and many other home made items. The nearby Cardigan... More

We stayed there for a weekend recently and had a great time. The lodge/rooms were comfortable and it is located directly at the trailhead. We enjoy a location where once we arrive, we don't need to get in the car again to go eat or get to a trail head. The price is right and the food was good. If... More

this is a great opportunity to be outdoors and help foster your kids love/understanding of the outdoors. it is a family tradition for us. lots of time outdoors and indoor time if needed. summiting the mountain is something for kids of any age to be proud of. the pond has newts and frog for catching and releasing.

My family of 3 just returned from our 3 nights at Cardigan Lodge and I (the mom) couldn't wait to write this review. What an amazing place! Details of our trip/situation: August 31 to September 3, 2012. Perfect weather. Cool at night and in the early morning; awesome hiking weather by 9 am. We stayed in the lodge on the... More

Our family (with two kids, ages 5 and 2-1/2) stayed at the Cardigan Lodge for 4 nights, and we had a fabulous time! As many people have written, the meals were very good (vegetable soup, homemade bread, lemon pesto pasta, chili and tacos, plus yummy blueberry pancakes and real oatmeal at breakfast, just to name a few), the staff was... This is not a hotel experience. You'll stay in a bunk room and share dormitory-style bathrooms unless you book one of the few rooms with private baths. The spot is perfect for family hikes, stargazing, playing games, and getting away from technology. Meals are tasty but I wish breakfast had been at 8 a.m. (as it says on the AMC... More

I agree with all the other reviewers about how special this place is. Terrific food, a friendly and positive staff, and very clean accommodations make this a wonderful home base for a hiking getaway. The other guests are warm and friendly and eager to share their own hiking stories. Even my teen and tween pointed this out! Our only discomfort... More
