Monsaraz is an old village inside of a castle, right in the top of a small moutain in the middle of the Alentejo lowlands, near the biggest artificial lake in Europe (Alqueva). From this small hotel (Estalagem) in one of the hillsides, it seems you are the king of the world, regarding the views you have from the rooms, the... More

Just outside the Monsaraz town wall so great views over the plains of Alentejo to the West (not the lake to the S-SE). Atmospheric teared garden surrounding pool. The lighting didn't work in the first room we were shown to and the only natural light/view in the whole roon + ensuite was through a glass pane in the door! -... More

Both service and accommodations were just terrible! Our room was really dirty. The toilet had mold in it and there were bugs in the tub. They knew I was going with my husband and they put us in separate beds and didn´t even care to let us know. Breakfast is really low, even the toaster was broken. The pool was... More

The location of this inn is spectacular, a five minute walk from the walled town, which is really special. The inn itself is fair - very dark with dark rooms which could have been cleaner: dead bugs in the tub, stained linens at breakfast. The air conditioning worked well, the bathroom was sized decently. It was fine for one night... More

We really liked this Inn, although it looks more like a guesthouse we liked the bedrooms, the bathroom was very modern and we thought the room size was fair enough. Breakfast is a little bit poor. The Inn as a great green area with a wonderful view and a pool that was open at this time of the year. It's... More

Monsaraz is itself a beautifully located little town in central Portugal, and this old-fashioned inn is a great base to explore the town and the area from. It has the added bonus of superb views from its terrace, which has a compact but pleasant little pool, and from some of its rear facing rooms. Overall a nice litte hotel to... More

Approaching Monsaraz, which is high on a hill and can be seen for miles around, you are full of expectation and the town does not disappoint. However the Estalagem, which is a couple of converted original bulldings fails on too many counts. The rooms are basic in the extreme and would benefit from general upgrading and perhaps a dash of...
