Fairly small but pleasant room. Viewed a few rooms when we were there and they were all wonderfully decorated and it appears that the bathrooms are new. Beautiful clean tiles and grout which is unusual even at 5-star hotels. Funky narrow hallways but it certainly adds to the charm. Very quiet room and flat-screen tv was a bonus. Would definitely... This is an old building in an old town--actually a few buildings cobbled together. The halls ARE narrow and creaky and the rooms on the small side compared with how hotels are built today. I have stayed twice--once with a friend and once visiting with my children. The rooms are pleasant, the beds are comfortable and it's pretty quiet. A... More

To visit our daughters at Carleton College, my wife and I spent the weekend before last in beautiful Northfield, MN -- the home of Malt-O-Meal and the town where the James Gang (who were Confederate terrorists, by the way) robbed their last bank. We stayed at the Archer House. If I were a proper reviewer I would be able to... More

Charming old hotel, nicely remodeled, with lots of original character (narrow, winding hallways, creaking floor boards, tilted stair railing, old plumbing that doesn't allow for hot water early in the AM). The rooms are small, but the bed was very good. The hotel backs up to the river. Be advised, the locks to the rooms do not lock of their... More

The Archer House is old and full of character -- sloping floors, a maze of hallways, eclectic furnishings, steep staircases. The location is wonderful. We were in Northfield to visit Carleton, and we parked our car in the back lot and never moved it -- everything was within easy walking distance. Our room was a bit small and dark, but... More

We stayed at The Archer House when we went to Northfield to visit our daughter and friends of ours. We spent one night at The Archer House and found it to be a nice, quiet place to stay. The lobby is quiet and nicely decorated. We chose a lower price room because we would be arriving rather late and leaving... More

This is an old hotel with a lot of what I'll kindly refer to as "character". But, options are limited in Northfield and in our experience Archer House offers the best accommodations in the area. Front desk and staff are friendly and helpful, rooms are clean and location is ideal for visiting Carleton and St. Olaf. The recent renovation is... More

Sadly while the location is terrific and staff is good the beds are so uncomfortable in some of the rooms one cannot sleep. Plus wedding central the weekend we stayed and LOUD!!! The staff tried to get it under control to no avail. This experience could be so much better with some money invested in better beds and doors on... More

If you are looking for a cookie- cutter hotel, go else where. If you are looking for a historic hotel under renovation with spectacular views downtown and of the river, this is perfect. It reminds me of Fitger's in Duluth (although without the brewery). More

This was the worst hotel experience we've ever had, and that's saying something. The room was right above the fan for the restaurant, and the air being pumped upwards was rank. It smelled like sewage, not exactly a come-on for the Tavern Restaurant. There was no door on the bathroom, and the bathroom had a window right next to the... More
