The settings for this hotel are amazing: an old convent with all the art preserved, and a beautiful indoor garden. Room was also spacious and clean, and location in Leon is very good. But ... compared to other places we stayed in Nicaragua, the staff was friendly but did not seem so happy, the breakfast quality was not good and... More

Don't believe the hype.  Nice hotel but far from being 5 star / wonderful / deserving of The Best.  Has lots of faults and rests too heavily on having a nice courtyard and lounge area.  I prefer to have a nicer room and good service than a stunning courtyard. Can tell immediately that Convento needs lots of attention just from... More

What a lovely way to start my trip in Nicaragua. This hotel was impeccably clean and quite interesting with its various antiques throughout the hallways and lobby area. True to the theme of being a former convent, there were religious icons throughout, with the piece de resistance being a huge ornate altar in the lobby. I hesitated to give this... More

Beautiful oasis in the middle of the city. Gorgeous gardens, large clean rooms, decent bathrooms, staff offer polite service, very safe. Just watch out for the 'voluntary' tip that's added onto the final bill - not too sure it really reaches the staff.

Great garden, great food. Since we were not staying at the hotel, they told us we could not see the other areas.

Wow!! What a nice hotel. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The decor is very beautiful: ceramics and lots of antiques are spread all over the place, it's almost a museum in itself. The staff is ok, but I have seen more welcoming pepole... The breakfast is very good, lots of choices and the room in which it is... More

I doubt El Convento was quite as swanky when it housed nuns: today it has been lovingly restored and still retains some Catholic touches. The courtyard is beautiful, with a babbling fountain in the center; rooms are arranged around the perimeter. I lucked out and was given the capacious room 32, with a lovely king-size bed and a sitting area... More

We splurged on this hotel after having a bad experience at another hotel (in another city) the night before, and we are so happy we did. The setting is gorgeous, and the rooms are clean and large. The staff was exceptionally helpful, and even though we did not have a reservation we were greeted and treated well, our bags were... More

We spent our first few nights on our honeymoon in Nicaragua in this hotel, very jetlagged and exhausted from the wedding it was a great place to recuperate. The staff were very friendly (once you get over the shock of the armed guard!), beautiful cloister gardens, huge very comfy beds and a great restaurant that served lovely breakfasts (fill up... More

El Convento was originally a convent, built in the mid 1600s. It is beautifully restored, with rooms arranged around a fine formal garden and a large fountain. Everywhere you look there are antiques, paintings, and other quality arts and crafts. The reception staff are gracious and helpful, and the restaurant is very good. The rooms are much larger than one... More
