Firstly, I would like to point out that my stay at the Nilavali Beach Hotel was during a rather hectic and tiring business assignment so if my review appears to be somewhat jaded then I do apologise. However, I will say that returning to the hotel after a hard days graft was a welcome distraction. We arrived at the hotel... More

The layout of the resort itself is nice but rooms are old and dirty.  Considered that they charge $125 for a room, the staff was very unfriendly and barely spoke english. Since we didn't see a single other guest and the hotel was completely empty, we were trying to negotiate for a better price, without success.  The bathroom had mold... More

Whats good: Fantastic beach, terrific food, friendly staff, great ambience, excellent service and a brilliant swimming pool. Whats ok: The standard rooms are only adequate. Whats not good: Dodgy air conditioner in room 18 which can not be adjusted and can only be switched on and off by climbing on a chair. Bad smells from the drains. Not enough protection... More

We were keen to stay here again having visited first in 1994 when the war was in full swing and it was the only place open. We were the only tourists staying and were treated royally. Our next visit in Feb 2005 was to see a hotel devastated by the Tsunami. This time we were so pleased to see the... More

Nilaveli Beach Hotel enjoys the distinction of being one of the oldest hotels in the area and have made progress towards uograding facilities and amenities since it suffered extensive damage in the Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004 but there's still room for improvement The hotel is well laid out with lots of tree cover and service is very good. The... More

This hotel is a wonderful hotel in Trincomalee. I would say that within its category, it is my favorite hotel in all of Sri Lanka. The service at this hotel was unparalleled to anywhere else in Sri Lanka that I visited. They are totally aware of the importance of customer service and care. The employees seem happy to be there... We stayed three nights in one of the standard rooms. These are really basic, but we only used our room for a shower and for sleeping. It was one of the most pleasant hotels we visited in Sri Lanka. The staff is very very helpful and kind, which makes it a really luxury hotel. We loved the shadowed tree garden... More

We spent 5&1/2 weeks in Sri Lanka. I am a professional chef , 40 years duration. Still cooking in California. Although the rooms were nothing special the breakfasts were beyond compare, reminded me of a fancy restaurant in Santo Domingo, DR for variety, quality, and just plain yumminess. We like to eat the food of the country so we ate... More
