This is a great place to stay. Bill and Darlene are super friendly and helpful. We were biking for the C&O Canal and had a medical emergency. Bill drove the injured to the hospital and stayed with him until he was released, while Darlene welcomed the rest of us, made us comfortable, and made sure a local restaurant could accommodate... This is a wonderful and historic B&B located near the C&O Canal Trail and the Maryland Rail Trail. The proprietors pay great attention to detail, including a garage to store our bikes in, a bike wash, a washer and dryer, drinks and snacks. The rooms are very clean, quaint and comfortable. Breakfast was outstanding. And our hosts, Darlene and Bill,... More

We've been to many B&Bs and this one would be the top of the list. Bill and Darlene are perfect hosts. The room was clean and comfortable, the breakfasts delicious. The many special touches, attention to detail, and warm hospitality make this place a winner in our book.

Great hosts with clean classy rooms. There is a garage for bike storage and the bike trail is directly across the street. Location is about midway on the Maryland Rail Trail so you can do half one day and the other half the next day, and visit Fort Frederick at the end of the trail. Bill cooks up a great... More

This was a great place to stay while biking the trail. Hose to wash off bikes and a garage for safety. We stayed in the Railroad Room and it even had a jacuzzi tub which was wonderful after a long day of biking. The innkeepers had a washing machine, water and drinks and also snacks and brownies. What a treat... More

The 1828 Trail Inn was just what the doctor ordered after a long, rainy day on the C&O. Even though we arrived a little later that we anticipated, we were greeted by Darlene on the front porch and directed to the back of the property where we were able to hose off ourselves and our bikes. After we put the... More

We're a middle-aged couple, rode from Homestead PA to DC, lots of rain and mud along the way. This was the best stay on the way, not even close. Bill came out to meet us, invited us to hose off our bikes and store them in the shed, gave us towels to wipe down panniers, showed us to laundry, newspapers... More

We showed up at the B&B after a day of riding from Cumberland in the rain and our bikes and us were covered with mud. We went to the B&B to get a suggestion of where to go to get cleaned up and Darlene came up with a hand full of towels and showed us where the hose was and... More

We stayed at the 1828 Trail Inn in early August in route to Pennsylvania. Darlene and Bill are fantastic hosts. Darlene went above and beyond in making sure we were very comfortable! The afternoon snacks were great and Bill's egg breakfast and pumpkin pecan muffins were delicious. We hope to go back in October to ride the Western Maryland Trail.
