Excellent B&B hosts, room, breakfast, and location. Thank you so much to the fantastic manager and staff. The room was spacious and comfortable and breakfast was delicious. We left super early for the airport and they left to go cups for tea/coffee and scones in a to go bag, I hope to visit again!

The Pomegranate Inn is a little gem! I stayed in the carriage house room with my dog, the room was clean and comfortable, the bathroom was very spacious and I had everything I needed. The daily, three-course breakfast was always delicious and freshly prepared. The staff and innkeeper, John, couldn’t have been better hosts! A great choice for a beautiful place to stay in Portland!

This was our first time visiting Maine so I wanted to make it special by staying in a Bed and Breakfast. The Pomegranate In exceeded all of our expectations! The house is gorgeous, our room was large and bright, and the bed was fantastic! The innkeeper, John, is a gourmet chef. Both mornings that we were there we were treated to a three course breakfast that was absolutely delicious! We are already planning a return trip next Fall and hope to book our stay again at the Pomegranate Inn.

June 12-14, 2023. Lovely stay in the Iris Room. The inn decor is exquisite and eclectic John and Patrick were great hosts who went above and beyond to make one's stay welcoming. Breakfast and afternoon treats were perfection, and John was willing to share recipes. Safe walking neighborhood with beautiful architecture and flower gardens for an evening stroll. John was a font of recommendations for parks to walk, places to eat, stores to shop, and where to park. If he did not know the answer off the top of his head, he researched and came back to you with the answer. Convenient location to the airport and downtown. Sally W.

Whomp whomp...the Pomegranate Inn has a lot of potential and sounds like it used to be pretty amazing but I think they room to improve these days (especially for the price they are charging). We were in the Wandering Vines room which was nice and spacious but I was disappointed that the gas fireplace wasn't working. The breakfast wasn't great...they really sell it as gourmet but I wouldn't describe it as such. We stayed 2 nights and then the hot water/heater went out so they rebooked us somewhere else. They were very quick to call and explain that situation and rebook us in a hotel. The young woman working there was very kind and apologetic with that situation. I really hope they can make some updates and fulfill the potential that they have!

This was to be the highlight of our trip up to Bar Harbor. We stopped in Portland solely based on the great reviews and beautiful pictures of the Pomegranate Inn. I notified the Inn I am gluten free in advance. It was a complete disappointment. The owner was out of town and left an ill-equipped young person in charge. Our room was not readied for our visit and felt dirty, closed up, and hot. An attempt to open windows revealed some painted shut, others would not stay open. I decided to try the window air conditioner and it was covered in mold! I told the young woman in charge, and she immediately came to the room and said she would get maintenance to replace it. I asked for a fan. When she could not produce one, she was embarrassed and said again, she would request maintenance bring one immediately I felt bad for her. You could clearly see she wanted to do a good job, but did not have the means to do so. At 9:30 that evening I got a text saying a fan was outside the room door. The bedding was musty. Pillows old, flat. Mold on wall in bath near shower. Light fixture over bed would not work. The breakfast was so sad I hate to even mention it. I tried and failed to reach the owner, apparently they are not interested in a personal experience for their guests. Avoid.…

Their reservation requires cancellation by phone, but doesn't give you a phone number. When you do call, you can't talk to anyone. An automated message sends you to voicemail. We're still awaiting a callback. But given that we only booked yesterday and our reservation is for 5 days from now, we're probably out of luck anyway. Most other hotels require only 24 hr notice.

We stayed at the Pomegranate Inn on two previous occasions several years ago, and loved our experience: a charming, beautifully decorated and well maintained property, and delicious breakfasts. Not this time. We think that there is a new owner, who seemed overwhelmed by running and maintaining a quality inn. Our stay in the Carriage House was very disappointing. The floor was badly in need of refinishing, the rug was frayed and dirty, the draperies need replacing, and the window air conditioner was old and noisy. The bed was comfortable, the shower was good, and the towels were of good quality. Breakfast was extremely disappointing and scant. The cost of our accommodation far exceeded the value of what we received. It is said that you get what you pay for. Unfortunately, we did not!…

The Pomegranate Inn is a significant historic house in a quiet neighborhood of other historic houses, Decorated in a colorful “shabby chic” style, the rooms are distinctive and showcase the owner’s artistic style. We stayed in the carriage house, which is separate from the main inn and had its own private outside sitting area. The carriage house could certainly use some updating but we enjoyed its quirkiness and found it to be very comfortable. As owners of a 200+ year old house, we know firsthand the challenges of restoring and keeping up an old house and while the inn is not restored to perfection, it is so much more appealing than the standard chain hotels in downtown Portland. We found the breakfasts delicious and filling and appreciated the famous Holy Doughnut the innkeeper provided us on our last morning, The inn is close to everything in Portland and perfectly reflected the uniqueness of Portland itself.…

I fail to understand the positive reviews for this place unless they are solicited, paid reviews. My wife and I travel fairly often and although I rarely provide reviews, I feel compelled to do so in the case of this so-called ‘inn’. We encountered so many issues it is difficult to know where to begin. First, my wife and I stayed in the carriage house. The first thing we noticed was the air conditioner. Not only was the air conditioner barely functional and noisy, the red filter light was on. I removed the filter and it was absolutely filthy; I spent a half hour cleaning the filter in the sink. Next, and not least the bathroom sink was cracked, tiles in bathroom were cracked, the bathroom pocket door needed repair and was off the rollers and the infrared bathroom timer did not work. In addition the patio door also needed to be replaired or most likely replaced as it did not slide smoothly. Secondly, my sister and her friend stayed in the main house second floor, number 8. The chandelier did not work and the hair dryer did not work. Thirdly, breakfast was particularly disappointing. For the price we paid, we expected a fairly substantial breakfast. Instead we were served small dishes of (supermarket) yogurt with some fruit and pan fried previously frozen pierogis in some gloppy sauce from a can or jar. This was absolutely appalling. If I had been the owner of this so called inn, I would never have served anything of such poor quality. How much could it possibly cost to have served omelettes to order, fruit, pastry, yougurt, juice choices? If perogies are to to be served they should at least be either made fresh in the kitchen or purchased fresh. Fourthly, and lastly, not only was no one at the inn when we arrived, there was no one at the inn to voice our concerns. Our checkout consisted of leaving the keys in the front foyer. Needless to say, we will not return.…
