As a Marriott Platinum member, I travel extensively for business and pleasure. I have stayed at this hotel 11-12 nights over the past six years and have always enjoyed my stays. It was built in around 1880 and is considered a historical landmark – it’s had just about every U.S. President stay there since and has pictures of Taft, FDR,... More

Like the staff. Room okay, fitness center okay. One of two elevators worked. Perfect location for my business. Would stay here again without enthusiasm. More

Pros: Very large room (they vary in size). Extremely comfortable beds.Thick bathroom towels. "New-ish" decor. Friendly staff. Clean pool, whirlpool, and exercise room. Free wireless Internet. The "character" that comes with an older hotel (like original wall tiles in the basement, and old photos of the hotel and famous guests on the corridor walls). Cons: Bathroom a bit small. Room... The best thing I can say about this hotel is that its in a great location. We attended a show at the Civic Center and it was a very short walk to the show and nearby restaurants. The hotel had a "feeling" of being rundown and needing maintenance. We were located on the 9th floor and spent a lot of... More

We were visiting a patient at a downtown hospital and chose this one for it's spacious appearance and proximity. And were sure not disappointed. The greeting and helpful professional staff were there whenever we needed them. The lobby is beautiful and the rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The beds and bedding were outstanding and so luxurious. I am a... More

Thank you so much for your response to your stay. We are very pleased that you chose us and will be happy to share your comments with our staff. We are looing into adding more shelf space in the bathrooms in the near future. Thank you again for staying with us and please come again. More

I was in Des Moines for a convention, so this hotel was the practical choice. The Savery’s strong point is the fact that it is connected to the Polk County Convention Complex by an enclosed walkway where police officers patrolled. I read that Des Moines has a fairly high crime rate, so, being a woman on my own, the enclosed... More

I used priceline and bid $100 for a room based on rates listed around $150. It's a very old hotel that has been updated. The staff are consistantly super friendly and personable and during our stay we asked for recommendations and information of at least 3 different personnel. Though the hotel is clean and nicely appointed, the rooms are small... More

I stayed at this hotel for one night on business in early March. This is my second time at this hotel. It was another successful stay. Room was bright, clean and comfortable. Yes, the bathrooms are small, but they are clean and that is all that matters. It would be nice to have a shelf that was a little larger... More

Nice hotel and a great location if you have business downtown connected to the sky walk. In our case business was at the Federal Building, 3 to 5 minute walk from the hotel, inside no going out in the cold ! Rooms were nice size, and clean. Building is handy cap accessible (I'm in a wheelchair) and a nice lunch... More

It's Des Moines in January and it's cold. The hotel and it's staff we're all the warmth we needed. A bunch of guys rolling off a tour bus looking like they should go to HoJo, and they didn't blink an eye. The Staff was helpful, all facilities clean and up to date, house keeping came quickly when I asked for... More
