We were first-time campers, with a dog and an older pop-up.After choosing a site from an on-line map near the handicap.restroom, imagine our surprise to find a beautiful shaded spot just for us!Everything was accessible including clean showers, laundry, dog walk area including disposal bags, well contained garbage cans.Neighbors were within shouting distance but not too close to even hear their TV/radio.The people were friendly... We stayed in the dog section. The lots are pretty, really depends on what area you get though. Get as far away from the dump stations as possible or you will be smelling them your entire stay. The bathroom/shower facilities in the dog camping area were absolutely filthy. It is almost as if they take better care of the non... More

What a shame Fort De Soto beach are cashing in on people parking on their north beach. We were Gobsmacked after free parking over the last 9 years of visiting Florida. Anyway it's still a great beach, we had a wonderful barbecue on the evening under a great sunset. More

Not a good place for families with young children. At night the place turned into a drunken free for all. The conversations were mostly adult oriented and could be heard by all throughout the wee hours of the morning. We packed up and left after one night. Great place to party and get drunk and loud. Not so good for... More

Mostly shaded EW sites. Waterfront sites are well worth the extra few dollars. Because of low hanging branches, some of the back-in sites are difficult to manouver. There are no fire pits, but large wash basins can be rented for $3/day from the camp store. Very slow internet at the office, laundry ($1 wash, $0.75 dry). Extensive cycling and walking... More

We have camped at Fort De Soto twice now, and we love it! The campground is on two sections of an island, one for campers with dogs and one without. The sites are roomy with lots of trees and foliage, giving more privacy than many campgrounds. Most sites are on the water. The bath houses are clean and spacious. When... More

This campground was beautiful! The spots were fairly secluded. The only problem with coming in was low hanging branches. We stayed in the dog area with six people and six dogs. The park only allows two dogs per spot so we had two people and dogs per spots. It seemed to work out fine until the day we left them... More

Our third stop on our tenting journey, Fort De Soto is a rare gem in central Florida. After our mishap with St. Pete KOA the night before, we couldn't be happier to transfer to Fort De Soto. As a state park, admission was cheap (in the mid 20s) and the site was glorious. Definitely worth a three night stay, and... More

We stayed 3 nights at this campground. Very beautiful scenery, bathrooms were ok clean, and very quiet at night 10:00pm. The only thing that’s kinda strange.. but maybe all Florida campgrounds have this.. $25.00 refundable fee for a $3.00 to rent fire pit that was just a metal wash tub. It worked as a fire pit..When night hits its very... More
