Old time Florida motel. Really liked the atmosphere. Everyone from motel staff to other guests were very friendly. Also enjoyed sitting in the swing watching the sunset. It's not a big fancy chain if you're looking for that. It is a nice relaxing place to stay.

Our 3rd stay here and not our last. We love this little gem of a place. The rooms have just what you need for a long weekend or week. It has its own beachfront and is walking distance to everything. The owners are easy going and accomodating. We were here for the annual Cedar Key Seafood Fest and had front row seats to the parade. When we were for the 4th, we enjoyed the fireworks over the ocean. There's plenty of places to ride bikes, go for hikes, and great restaurants.

There is video footage of the waves from Hurricane Idalia battering the buildings of Faraway Inn. This was a very pleasant place to stay. For the owners' sake, I hope they had good insurance and can rebuild. In the meantime the inn appears to be closed for business.

Booked online and did not know what to expect. This was a lovely place to stay! We booked a cottage and it was wonderful. Clean, roomy and the beds were very comfy. I was happy to see that there were actually a kitchen, dining area and living area besides the bedroom! We will definitely be back to Cedar Key and wouldn't think of staying anywhere else!

Cat food for local cats kept feet from the door of our room (fly's and smell) Other guest dogs barking during the night, toilet area for very small people, bikes were old, rusty and tires were flat. Paid in cash in full after we arrived because we were offered a " Cash discount" No ventilation in rooms (cooled by small window units) yet later the day of check out, after we had left we were advised by a call that our credit card (we used to make reservations) had been charged 150.00 because someone smelled smoke thru the ventilation (they do not have, window units only) that we had smoked cigarette's in the room. We advised the caller, that was not true and impossible because the " Pot" being smoked by other people on that property was so strong no one could smell anything over that or if you stood at the door of our room the cat and cat food smell was over whelming, yet we did not want to ruin others weekend so we kept it to ourselves. Management was so rude we will never return there. Stayed there years ago (different owners) and over 40 times at other locations since in Cedar Key (never an issue) …

Again, you are aware of the charge. You came to the office and picked up receipt from the credit card charge of $150 for smoking in the room and leaving your ashes from the cigarette on the nightstand. Picking up the receipt shows confirmation of the charges. We do not allow you to smoke in the rooms for the welfare of our other guests. We will continue to charge guests a fee for smoking in rooms but have put many ashtrays around the property for the convivence of our smoking guests. We did not smell pot so unsure of this claim. I am unsure of a dog barking because this is the first you have mentioned it. We are a pet friendly hotel and will continue to allow all of our guest's fur babies to travel with them. The cat food outside of my office door is for our resident cat, Turtle. She is 16 years old and yes, still around for all previous guests who love and miss her. Please stop by and see her if you get the chance. That being said, she will continue to be fed by the office. We have a wonderful, retired nurse Emma who comes every night to pick up her food (don't want racoons visiting) and brush her. Thank you, Emma, we appreciate you. Your room is the small hotel room and yes, has a window ac unit. We welcome anyone at our hotel and you can even check out the room before you choose to reserve. We welcome all tours and inquires. We will continue to keep our rooms clean for all future guests. Please come visit us and our property anytime. Jmichelles we wish you the best and hope you find the place that suits you in Cedar Key.

The Faraway Inn is far from the hustle and bustle of city life, yet it's not far from anything on Cedar Key. I recommend it highly. The old website for the Faraway (which was just recently overhauled), gave me the impression that the place was a little rustic and past its prime. I booked it anyway, first because the price was good, second because our cabin enjoyed an unobstructed view of the water and sunset, and third because the Faraway offers FREE use of its kayaks and bicycles. And boy, was I wrong about "rustic" and "past its prime!" The room was updated, functional, clean, and the bed was luxurious. The energy around the place was lively, and guests mingled in the "front porch" communal area facing the water. We watched a glorious sunset from our room the first night. We walked a few blocks to the downtown shops and restaurants. The next day, we used a tandem kayak to paddle from the beach across the street from our room to Atsena Otie island, and later used bikes to ride to the museum and park across the island. We didn't need to use our car the entire time we were there. And did I mention the use of the kayak and bicycles was FREE? P.S. the new website better reflects the beauty of the inn.…

Our room was clean, cool, and funky! Our view of the Gulf was spectacular as were the sunsets. The owner was very friendly and interested in our stay. Faraway Inn is very dog friendly, but the housekeeping was so good that the rooms did not have any pet smell. Our room had a comfortable bed, leather sofa, microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, and a table with 2 chairs. We had four private outside chairs as well as shared swings, loungers, and tables/chairs.

Excellent lodging!!! The room was beautiful decorated like a beach cottage. The gulf view room had the listed amenities ( refrig, microwave, coffeepot, coffee filters, coffee, sugar etc). It also had dishes and utensils. They also provided shampoo, conditioner, and soap for the showers. The beds were comfortable (even for my arthritic back). The staff are friendly and helpful. The view was awesome too, especially sunsets. I would highly recommend it to everyone!!!

My third stay at the Faraway Inn. Great location and comfortable, funky, friendly atmosphere. The cottages are very comfortable for a family and my father enjoyed the Captains Quarters as well. So happy to see that Turtle the cat was still there after all these years. The first stay with our dog, and he loved it. Looking forward to our next visit.

I spent three nights at the Faraway in June of 2022. Cedar Key is far off the beaten path and that's exactly why I went there. The Inn itself is a no frills, cabin-like atmosphere. Each room is unique and quaint (in the best possible way). I've been searching out placing like this since the pandemic began, and the Faraway was exactly what I was looking for. As for Cedar Key, it's what you would expect from a tiny island off the Gulf of Mexico. Make no mistake, this is not the Hamptons or South Beach. It's clean, friendly and picturesque. I can see why the several expats I talked to were happy to leave the cold north for this little hideaway.
