Lunch started well with nice table and cheerful waitress but ended there. Mackerel brandade starter sounded good but was solid, very cold and over peppered. It was entirely unsuited to the thin crispbreads that came with it - most of it went back. The fish came heavily battered and didn't taste much like haddock. It arrived warm but not hot... More

Stayed here 11th May 2013 for the night following a great wedding held at the Inn. The organisation of the whole day was fantastic - as a coeliac I was catered for extremely well. Our room for the night was spacious and very clean, however I have a few pointers for the management if they care to read this review... More

Having recently changed hands we still need to sample the food at the Talbot as on this occasion we were evening guests to a wedding and only had buffet food (which however was very nice). The wedding took place in the barn and worked really well with its large room for food and then dancing and its 2 smaller rooms... More

Not great, not particularly clean and the deluxe room is disappointing. Dinner was heavy and did not digest until late at night. The reception is old an there is a general feeling of not being clean. Old smelly carpets in public areas and frequented by local quite depressing people. Shame looks so much better on the website than in real... More

. . . we stayed for a family wedding which was fabulous and very well organised with excellent food and efficient staff. A perfect venue from that respect. However, the rooms were nothing special (unlike the price) and the 'put-you-up' beds for kids were very poor and noisy so we didn't sleep very well. You get a continental breakfast included,... More

We only came here for dinner at the restaurant, which turns out to be very modern compared with the little bar we walked through to get to the restaurant, I much preferred the atmosphere in the bar! We travelled down from London to meet up with family who live 30 mins away and would try to find somewhere else next... More

It was my wife,s birthday so took her and my children to the Talbot. We arrived at 8pm restaurant not very busy. No other dinners arrived after us, that may tell a story. Staff friendly enough but seemed very disinterested. I asked I believe the restaurant manager for some bread, he removed all our side plates and then returned with... More

This is a very old-fashioned hotel both in a good way and a bad way! The entrance, bar etc have a lot of character but the rooms are not much better than a Travelodge, but a lot more expensive. On a two-night stay, the bins were not emptied and the toiletries and tea bags were not replenished. Honestly if the... More

This should be a fantastic hotel. It's a beautiful building in a lovely area. But during our stay we were made to feel as if we were second class citizens by the staff who gave the impression that as guests we were getting in their way. Our first impression was very favourable...but then things started to go wrong. We were... More

We had a fantastic family Sunday lunch for 12 (including 2 children under 2). We had decided to book the Emma room so that we had our own private room, which proved to be perfect for our group.
