We have stayed here often and always enjoy it. The journals that are In the rooms for people to document their adventures in Durango are interesting to read. Having a great restaurant and a saloon in the building is also a bonus.

If you're looking for a special place to stay, the Strater Hotel in Historic Old Durango, Colorado, is decked-out finery in an Old West box. They have done a great job of keeping the look and feel of the 1800's place while updating to code. The hotel restaurant is excellent. The Henry Strater Theatre is renowned for quality live performances... More

A purpose of our vacation was to stay in five old hotels in southwest Colorado. The Strater wowed us from the very minute we walked through the door! It is evident that the current owners, the Barker family, have passionately invested their hearts in restoring this treasure to her former glory. The furnishings and service reflect a high level of... More

I took my Dad on the Durango-Silverton railroad this past week and before and after we stayed at the Strater Hotel. We were in room #108 which is one of the premium rooms and it was super. Had a tiny funky odor but it is an old property. The entire hotel has neat memorobilia all over so it was fun... More

This is a beautiful historic hotel right on Main Street. The architecture of the hotel is so pretty and the staff went out of there way to accomodate your every need. I would definitiely recommend this hotel and will stay there again.

The Strater is on the Historic Hotels of America list which authenticates it as a true historic landmark. We opted for the less expensive standard room that includes a full (not a queen) bed --a little tight for two adults. We survived! The room is clean, and full of antique furniture, but the bathroom is modern enough with shower, etc.... More

The Strater is a beautiful hotel that has really preserved the historic feel. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They had great suggestion about activities and local restaurants. The saloon inside the hotel is very old-timey, with the staff costumed in 1800's garb. The room was very clean and beautifully decorated. Breakfast is complimentary and very good. I highly... More

I have nothing but great things to say about this hotel. The rooms were nicely decorated. We were right in the middle of everything, a short walk to the train station for the ride to silverton. The. free breakfast was supurb and tasty. The hotel was clean and neat with staff everywhere. The bellman was so helpful making suggestions as... More

I knew we wanted to stay in downtown Durango, and relied upon Trip Advisor ~ voila! We spent a delightful 3 nights at the Strater! Our room was gigantic, and had a front-of-the-hotel view of Main Street. We booked a queen-queen, and it literally was like two rooms together! Perfect for our family of four! Breakfast was a nice touch... More

This hotel is inviting and grand, and it has kept its historical character while adding a reasonable range of modern amenities. Excellent maintenance. The location cannot be beat. You can walk to a wide range of galleries, restaurants and shops within a couple of blocks. The staff is really superior. As someone who has lived in Colorado for many years,... More
