Walk into the lobby of the Strater Hotel and you're transported into the Victorian age. The entire hotel depicts life in the early 1900's. Aside from a lovely, quaint hotel room, the continential breakfast was excellent. Real eggs and healthy choices. We also enjoyed dinner at the Diamond Belle Grill on Wednesday $5.00 burger/$3.00 draft night. Delicious food. The West... More

This wonderful historic hotel is in the perfect location to wander and explore Durango. We had dinner and heard great bluegrass music (The Blue Moon Ramblers) in the Diamond Belle Saloon and loved it. The rooms are very authentic and decorated in the Victorian period. The hotel makes you feel like you are living in another era and you can... More

The Strater Hotel is a charming, historic hotel with a very good location, blocks from the Durango/Silverton train station and walking distance to shops, restaurants and bars. We booked our room late on a Friday (8:30-9pm) after leaving the hotel we had originally booked (it had no heat in September). We were given a discount (I believe 15%) because we... More

All the charm you'd expect from an old western hotel and more. The Strater delivers on its promise to transport you to another time through its antique decor, tiny old elevator and exceptional dining options. While the rooms are somewhat no-frills, they certainly are adequate and thoughtfully decorated. The downside of being such an old building is the size of... More

We stayed here two nights and were very pleased. We were in town to experience the Durango/Silverton railroad. It was a five hour ride, scenic views, and majestic mountains all for the cost. The rooms are furnished in the period of the hotel. The beds are comfy, and we each had our own. Nice when sleeping on the road and... More

If you like historic anything this is the place to stay. The staff was very helpful, checked us in quickly and gave us a tour of the hotel. Everyone we met greeted us with a smile. The hotel is decorated in period pieces and the room we stayed in was fantastic. Loved the elevator, felt like going back in time.... More

I travel often, and I can say this is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. All of the employees are friendly, and go OUT of their way to ensure you enjoy Durango. The hotel is done to show its original vintage quality! The rooms are very well appointed with each room being just a little different. The... More

We stayed here for 3 nights to get away from it all. The hotel is right on main street so it is within easy walking distance of most of the shops. We had the Louis Lamour room on the corner of the 3rd floor. It is a huge room overlooking main street. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here. The bar is... More

The Strater is a special hotel in a special place, Durango, CO. There is a vitality there in both the hotel and city. The Strater offers immaculately clean and comfortable rooms in a classic setting. Public areas abound, with restaurants and saloon. All built in that old, intricate wood work style. Even the corridors and main stairwell are exceptional. Located... More

While we do our fair share of overnights in chain hotels, we also relish the time-travel and the vivid memories that a stay in an historic hotel provides. When technology changes too quickly and the latest edition of iPad is banner news, the lure of history beckons. Soak up that narrative: Was this historic lodging on a bygone transportation corridor... More
