While this property clearly shows the bones of the motel-style building that it is, the rooms are a delight, with lots of modern touches. I appreciated the bathroom lighting, which is very flattering. Front desk staff was personable and helpful. They really ought to consider putting an ironing board and iron in each room rather necessitating a call to the... More

I recently stayed here with a group of three other people. We were searching all over Santa Cruz for a hotel that was reasonably priced, yet didn't seem to sketchy. We came across Hotel Paradox and it was love at first sight. From the location, to the room interiors, to the completely remodeled outdoor pool and bar, it was all... More

Just got back from a night at this hotel. It is really lovely. The newly decorated rooms and bathrooms are beautiful Pool area is very comfortable with cabanas you can lounge it if it's cool. Walking distance to the downtown area with great restaurants. They have a good happy hour until 7 pm. We got back from dinner and went... More

I stayed here for two nights while attending a conference off site. They have done a very good job transforming an old Holiday Inn into an upscale boutique hotel. I loved the lobby area with the felled tree registration desk as well as the wood features throughout the hotel and rooms. The rooms have all been updated with fresh paint,... More

In April 2013 I attended a three day conference at Hotel Paradox. Our large group put the hotel at 90+% sold out. This made the dining room crowded for breakfast and lunch, but the service remained good expecially with the managers pitching in to help. The food was outstanding. The rooms are well-appointed, the staff was helpful and pleasant, the... More

My husband and I had a discount coupon and stayed here two nights for about $130/night. I wouldn't go back. It's nicely appointed but the owners seem to value fashionable decor and possibly "greenness" above guest comfort. Our main problem is that all the rooms open onto the community walkway, and the windows do not open. You must rely entirely... More

On the plus side: 1) The beds are wonderful and the rooms are squeaky clean. 2) The staff is very friendly and professional. 3) Free WiFi ...so much for the good points 4) Unfortunately, while the lobby, restaurant and conference center is in a brand new building, the hotel itself is an old Holiday Inn, probably built in the 70's.... Overall, I'd say this hotel has promise. The staff are eager, but unpolished. There were several glitches with our stay (first, a room next to an extremely loud elevator, then a hotel pool where no one greeted us, no deck chairs were available, etc.), but given the chance to correct them, they did. The waitstaff and front desk were overall... More

I stayed here with my sister for a weekend family event in the area. This hotel has beautiful, contemporary, unique touches. The registration desk is a huge trunk of a felled tree. The wall in the dining room have ceramic squirrels running up it. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Our room faced the pool on a upper floor (view,... More

My husband and I love this hotel so much that we've stayed here twice on our weekend trips, even though we live only one hour from Santa Cruz. It was probably a run down motel at one time that has been renovated into a beautiful, upscale hotel. Decor is charming... lots of rustic wood features used in a surprisingly modern... More
