The rooms are perfectly adequate. It's an old motel. Sort of run down but clean. It is walking distance (.5 miles) from downtown. Breakfast is included, which is just toast and cereal. There is no in room coffee, but there are towels, shampoo, and cable.

We arrived very early Thusrday and therefore got a cheap room (the prices rise the more customers they have). We could check in already at noon. OK room, good parking, simple breakfast at reception. In fine walking distance from Santa Cruz center.
We decided to stay one more night and payed a higher price for Friday night, but it seems...

Close to restaurants and The Boardwalk/beach etc. Standard independent motel really, it did the job, the pool isn't too private being right on the side of the road. As for road noise, yeah it is fairly noisy, but most motels are situated on the side of main roads, so don't book one and then complain about road noise. And they...

We booked the 2BR suite and were very happy that the room contains two real beds (not a couch that pulls out into a bed) in two separate areas with a lockable door in between and two TVs. The term "suite" may be a bit misleading -- it's like a typical hotel room, with a bedroom off the back, so...

We arrived to this motel really late without a reservation and the staff was really helpfull and nice. The rooms are really clean and confortable. There is a complimentary breakfast, the lady at the front desk even waited for us to wake up before closing the breakfast... It has a tiny pool in the parking lot... The only negative point...

Lets face it, you're either going to love Santa Cruz or hate it same goes for staying in budget motels. This is a reasonably priced hotel in a very highly priced area to stay it is also classic motel: rooms opening on the the parking lot, basic accommodation. I chose here as we were only staying one night to visit...

-Carpet was dirty
-Bed Sheets and blankets were thin, old, and had holes
-Musky smell
-Staff was rude- the man working called me and accused me of having friends stay in my room and demanded that I pay extra. (We were getting ready in costumes for Halloween downtown) I felt completely uncomfortable that the man was watching me from his...

While passing through Santa Cruz CA, my wife and I stopped at The Islander Motel for one night. We just simply needed to have a place to put our heads down for the night and we stumbled upon this hidden gem beside the Best Western. The price was also fantastic value and it was a good $40 less than what...

Rose and Moe, the hard-working owners of Islander Motel, treated us very well from the time we phoned to book a room until we checked out. We were on a tight budget and didn't know we'd be able to find such a clean, comfortable room with a firm mattress that provided a good night's sleep after a very long and...
