There are not a lot of choices if you are stopping overnight in Salinas. We found this via TripAdvisor and Yelp. It is not located downtown - can't really walk anywhere from the hotel, but it is clean and they have a pretty cool automatic pancake maker at breakfast. More

After a long drive from LA, I didn't know what to expect. Very nice and seems very new. Super clean and large comfortable King bed room. I asked for the corporate rate and received a nice discount. Nice staff, good location right off the 101. Very quiet and no road noise. Right next to farmland! Will stay again! More

This Hotel is great for an overnight stop if travelling from San Francisco and going further south. It is about 2 hours from San Francisco, depending on traffic of course. We visited Salinas, Salinas Valley, Carmel Valley and Monterey over five days in early October. This hotel is fine overall and was a good location for our explorations.
