This is a traditional courtyard hotel with charm and character. It's stone court yards and walls create a distinct atmosphere. Unfortunately the rooms were in need of an upgrade and refresh. Their maintenance programme also needs to improve. We had to move rooms as in the first one the heat pump didn't work properly. The staff were friendly and helpful.... More

The hotel has grat potential; it has been well restored on the whole, it has good copies of Ming furniture and is close to the center of the old walled city. Unfortunately, it is vastly overpriced for the service it provides. The room is small, there is no space for a suitcase. The bed is extremely uncomfortable, shower (cold!) floods... More

Perhaps it just fits a Western fantasy of traditional Chinese elegance, but this hotel is beautifully and charmingly decorated in its common areas -- like a movie set, really. The room was fine, on the smaller side, shower was more of a trickle, no floor divider from rest of bathroom -- but the decor was nothing special. The hotel restaurant... More

This is a beautiful looking hotel from the outside and as you walk through the courtyards to the rooms. However, the room itself was pretty average with a very hard bed (pretty standard in China but this was exceptionally hard). I think the biggest disappointment though was the staff. We spent 28 days in China and stayed in a huge... More

My wife and I stayed for 1 night. This hotel is fully restored to the Ming/Qing period complete with exterior courtyards, gateways, passage ways and interior finishes that make you feel that you just step back in time to 600-900 years ago. The guesthouse is a series of interconnected buildings and courtyards all surrounded by a high wall and located... More

We stayed here for one night and when we first arrived we thought the place was charming - lovely buildings and very peaceful. The room was ok, but the beds were so hard and creaky, it didn't really make for a good night's sleep. The rooms are in blocks of two and so share a main door and entrance way,... More

I stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights to visit Pingyao and the surrounding area. The hotel is situated in the middle of Pingyao, which is nearly fully pedestrian, making it a very convenient place to stay. The hotel is a traditional hotel which exists since a few centuries and officials traveling to Pingyao in ancient China used... More

The hotel is located in the caracteristic ancien city (you can reach by 5 min walk the main street with bar and shops). The hotel is really amazing if you walk around in courtyard: it is all in old cinese style. Negative points: the double room (100$) was small (you can almost not walk around the bed), with old and... Stayed at this hotel on a tour. It is a 5-star hotel located within the wall city and was told the hotel is the best within Pingyao wall city. The layout is very unique old siheyuan design with many squared structures one after another. The standard twin room we stayed in was extremely small (just about 150 sq. ft) and... More

A typical old style Pingyao building with alleys and courtyards. We thought a reasonable restaurant/bar for breakfasts. Bedrooms are sound - TV, reasonable facilities. Good location just outside the busy area so fairly tranquil, but still within the City walls and perhaps 300m from the main sights & streets. English is barely spoken, but Pingyao is more of an out-of-the-way... More
