My husband and I stayed at Mala in October 2010. We dind't want to write at that time our comments about the resort as it would have ended up in a very long description of a disastrous stay that should have lasted 4 nights, but we escaped after 1. We can only say that we had to laugh when reading... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mala. The fales are basic but comfortable. Neesha (the manager/real estate agent) and the rest of the staff were amazingly friendly and very accommodating. Food was superb, best fish and chips we've ever eaten. Once it was known that we liked coconut water, coconuts were provided (free) with every meal. Fantastic snorkelling but probably... More

My partner and I stayed at Mala Island Resort for 8 nights during August 2011. We absolutely LOVED it! I have never been to such a beautiful island in my life and I have visited many of the pacific islands. It it the best place to stay in Vava'u if you are wanting a private, quiet holiday with snorkeling and... More

Our vacation was amazing. Mala Island is the most beautiful place I have ever been to. The rooms are a bit out-dated and the resort could use a bit of small repairs as well. I also recommend bringing your own snorkel gear because the snorkeling is amazing. It did take a long time to receive our food after we ordered... More

This experience was one of the worst we have ever had. Mala Island is beautiful, the resort and the management are appalling. We booked in for 5 nights, stayed 2, but should have left as soon as we arrived. Right from the start things looked dodgy, particularly from the locals who all diplomatically tried to warn us off, but did... More

We traveled to Mala with our two children ages 10 and 1. We were amazed (still are) at how beautiful the island, the beach and the surrounding water was. The location is simply amazing! One of the owners was currently staying at the resort, I am assuming trying to fix some of the problems mentioned in other reviews. The owner... More

We didn't actually stay here but spent the day here then came back for dinner in the evening. The staff were welcoming and very friendly (new manager) but oh dear ... the resort is literally falling to pieces. We had a look around the Island at at some of the rooms and they all had the same problem. Complete lack... More

Mala Island is a gorgeous spot. As far as Tonga goes, the accommodation was nice. Everything was clean and the view from our room could not be beat. The resort has been through a string of bad managers lately and is still struggling to get on it's feet. When we were there, they were running critically low on water and... More

Crude management and staff with subpar service and rooms. The views were nice but the drunken management was too busy slamming coctails to be of any assistance to us -- even when our toilet and shower backed into the room. Very unpleasant! We later learned the manager was a wanted fugitive from the US and was detained by Interpol for... More

Mala Resort's reputation as having one of the most beautiful locations in Vava'u is definitely warranted. The views are stunning as is the island itself with its white sand beaches and path through a lush forest. While the one room bungalow I called home for 4 nights and its furniture was far from new, the room was comfortable with hot... More
