4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2013 NEW

Lovely large bedroom and bathroom. Comfortable bed - good night's sleep. Very good food and service in bar. Good food and service at breakfast too - which doesn't always happen. Only a few niggles: Nowhere to hang anything longer than a jacket except for the back of the wardrobe or bathroom door, IF you bring your own hanger with the... More

We have been visiting the Bear Hotel over the past 7 years and has always found the staff friendly and very pleasant. Yes the hotel is quirky but that is the charm that gets many visitors to go back again and again. We now tend to stay there a few nights in the year, the rooms are always spotless and... More

I endorse the comments of "GranddadBournemouth". The twin room was comfortable, well serviced and conveniently situated, whilst the food was excellent. The surroundings are lovely, with plenty of places of interest to visit.

My husband & I ate at the Bear yesterday evening and had a gorgeous meal. The menu was very extensive & I tried the Scate while my husband had the Welsh lamb burger, both were delicious, we then had some mouthwatering desserts & homemade ice cream, these were again delicious. The location is very pretty & the decor in the... More

As a group of 20 friends we have just spent 3 nights dinner/bed and breakfast at The Bear. We had our own dining room which was a great bonus and the food and service were excellent. The rooms are well furnished, clean and comfortable plus the bar serves some fine real ales. Altogether a very good experience.

We have just returned from two super nights/days at the Bear. Without exception the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Our room, (The Garden Room), was very comfortable and kept perfectly clean. A quirky hotel with many corridors and short staircases. (Well, that's how they built them in those days!). Made it even more interesting to find our way around!... More

I stayed here with a group of friends for 3 nights. Our rooms were clean, comfortable and the food was served quickly and was very good. The service was exceptional. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a break or as a base for walking or sightseeing in the Brecons.

Disregard all negative reviews about this hotel. Fantastic food. Fantastic staff. Reasonably priced. We go on a weekly basis and would highly recommend this place to all. Try it and see for yourself, I am sure that the people giving negative reviews visit another establishment

Eaten here now 3 times in 3 weeks and had 3 fantastic meals. Large number of choices on the menu, food well cooked and presented as well as delicious. Fantastic chefs who can actually cook! Great to find home cooked food in an old fashioned-style pub atmosphere rather than the re-heated offerings that you find in the big chain places.... More

We eat at the Bear, Crickhowell once every year when we visit the Brecon Beacons. The food is okay but pricey. Local people regard it as the place to be seen, but I don't know why. A previous reviewer remarked on his 600 year old room. The wallpaper in the dining room looks as if it pre-dates the Roman invasion... More
