We walked the Cardiganshire Coast and this was our first stop, soaked to the skin and frozen stiff. As we entered we tried to take off our outer clothing so as not to dirty the carpets but the landlord would have none of it insisting that we give him everything wet so that it could all be put in the... The owner was very pleasant and welcoming and the hotel is in a beautiful location. From the outside it looks lovely but inside the decor is very tired and grubby. We stayed at the beginning of the season but had booked a few weeks in advance - plenty of notice for the dead flies and spiders to have been cleaned... More

we were given a very warm and friendly welcome. Informed that there was only bottled beer as it was out of season, which is understandable, and were directed to the ship inn just down the road. our room (No8) a family room with double, single and bunkbed was clean but a little bit cold but there was a heater for us... Aberporth is a beautiful part of the West coast of Wales. The coastline is stunning and seals and dolphins can often be spotted frolicking in the bays whilst wild and rare seabirds can be seen soaring over its' cliffs. Whilst mother nature has done her part in providing the residents of this quiet town an industry in tourism, a venue... More

We enjoyed our stay at the Highcliffe - mainly due to our ability to see the funny side of almost anything. It was just about OK as long as you only needed a base to stay overnight. The proprietor was extremely friendly and courteous; the staff were smiling and helpful at all times. Unfortunately no amount of effort on their... More

Having arrived at the hotel. the first thing that struck us was the 1970's kitsch, the black flower wallpaper, the net curtain that give that Terry and June feeling, the only things that were lacking was the Stereo cassette player with 70's groove coming out of it, the Goblin teasmade, even the bedside alarm clock had that make you could... This hotel is desperately in need of updating, to say it looks tired is an understatement, decor is probably from the 60's, some parts of the ceiling had sellotape holding paper together, the carpet was sticky and I wouldn't walk on it barefoot, the toilet in my room stank after flushing, I honestly had to leave the room until the... This place is a disgrace. The owners were out. No note on the door. The place is a dump. Decor terrible, tired, dated and complete refurbishment required. The owners were OK when you could find one. How can anyone give this a very good rating. If Fawlty Towers was nearby, I would go there. More

We were walking the coastal path. We couldn't find anywhere else to stay in Aberporth. Yes, once I saw John Cleese in the owner, I couldn't get the image out of my head. Although grubby round the edges, the basics were clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was OK. Room decor a mix of several styles, with a few pealing... More

My family and I have stayed at the Highcliffe on and off fro almost twenty years (with still so much of the area left to explore). The owner, if you bother to engage him in conversation (try not to!) is a fascinating chap with a wealth of knowledge about the local area (even if he can't pronounce Machynellyth :-)) The... More
