While we've never stayed here, we visit the pub each year without fail. At the top of the hill leading down into Staithes, by the car parks, the Captain Cook isn't a fancy, tidied-up chain pub, but it's the real thing. Civilized and relaxed, with no television to be seen. Comfortable seats, benches and tables, lots of room to spread... More

Our first visit to the Captain Cook in Staithes. The bar staff are friendly, the chips are homemade, and the atmosphere is as a pub should be with wooden floors and roaring fire ! A great place to sit on a Saturday afternoon reading the papers.

Wooden floors, real ale, log fire all very good but the seats & curtains really have seen better days & no hand drying facilities in the toilets wouldn't take much to put right.

Great that the Cook is continuing and developing. Long may it reign over Staithes!

The rooms may not be modern and luxurious (YET), but the owners, staff and locals really make up for it. Welcoming, accomodating, friendly and down to earth, you only need the room to sleep in anyway. Fantastic selection of real ales and delicious home cooked food. We've stayed down in lower Staithes with our 2 children, 3 times in the... More

that every fall we turn the corner to drive downhill, we discover that the Cook is still alive and kicking! Our stays would not be the same without this place. We travel far, and it is always worth it. Not in the last place because of this pub and its atmosphere and guests. Open fire, good food, great beer. All... More

We discovered this pub during the wet parts of our holiday. Although we were staying elsewhere, we seemed to gravitate towards The Captain Cook. It is unspoilt, honest and totally refreshing. The beer was just how it should be, Sunday lunch was just like Mum used to make, and we felt really at home. We became entangled in a live... More
