Unfortunately we did not consult with Trip Advisor and relied on the website of Whale Cottage Camps Bay. From 28 April to 03 May 2012 we booked ourselves 2 sea facing rooms at Whale Cottage Camps Bay. As per request we paid a deposit upfront of R4500,00 (50%) and immediately on arrival we were requested to pay the reminder of... More

We checked into this place for a two night stay and were greeted by a pleasant young lady who offered complimentary glasses of champagne. However, having already paid half the cost months in advance we were required to pay the remainder upon check in which I paid with Visa. Not only that, she insisted on taking a blank credit card... Despite the friendly welcome by staff our holiday happiness was soon shattered by the sight of a run-down and outdated room with tacky and scratched furniture. Other things we noticed: -Filthy pool -Room decor very interesting (1980 chrome, leather, mirrors) very scratched and worn -Cheap and uncomfortable bedding -Rotten slats on the balcony - safety risk -Very uncomfortable seating in... I stayed in Whale Cottage on two occaisions this year and had two different experiences. My first visit was pleasant..the reason?....The owner Chris was not around. Although the Decking on our balcony room was rotten and dangerous and the swimming pool was murky the friendly staff made our visit enjoyable. On returning later in the month the atmosphere had changed, the "old"... More

We arrived at Whale Cottage, Camps Bay at 2030 on 15 March, 2012 – all six of us - after a delightful stay in the bush in Timbavati National Park. We had experienced a hire vehicle breakdown on the way and were delayed some 3 and a half hours before a replacement vehicle was brought whilst we waited in the... More

The one thing in this awful guesthouse's favour for us was that it was at the end of our travels through South Africa. Had we stayed here and nowhere else, we would have left the country thinking that it was dirty, overpriced and the people extremely rude and unhelpful. Fortunately, none of this is true about the rest of South... More

We visited all three Whale Cottage sites in January of 2012. All three sites were fantastic. They were all unique. All were clean, neat, and comfortable. Chris, Charmaine, and Carole were great hostesses. They made us feel at home at each site. Camps Bay was very beautiful and close to Cape Town. Froenschhoek in the wine country was perfectly located.... More

I have just returned back to Durban from a 2 day stay at this 'so called' 4 star establishment and I would definitely not recommend anyone staying there. I arrived half an hour later this past Friday afternoon and was made to wait outside in the hot January sun, as the staff did not know of my arrival!!!! ( even... More

Do not believe the website. It states that a 50% refund will be made if a cancellation is made within the specified time. Our cancellation was made 26 days before arrival, within the specified time, but the owner, Chris, refuses to pay up. Glynis van Rooyen.
