While the venue is impressive (specifically the rooms) the lack of maintenance and cleaning were down sides to the visit. The walkways were not lit at night, we ended up navigating the pathways to the main lodge via cell phone light - which is quite simply dangerous in the bush at night since snakes and even elephants are known to... We had friends visiting from Scotland and wanted to give them a real good game experience in the South African bush. We were not disappointed! From the moment that we arrived at Black Rhino Game reserve, we felt special. The rooms are more than could be expected and the staff were so friendly. We have never had rooms like this... More

My husband and I recently spent a very enjoyable Easter weekend at this lodge. Considering the proximity to our home, we were really impressed with the accommodation, the food (good home cooking) and the general service. We were made to feel very welcome. Game viewing was good. The only down side was the first 2 days, our guide was more... More

We are very familiar with the Pilnesberg and it's various camps but it was our fist stay at Black Rhino Game Loge. It is the best option in the Pilanesberg if you are looking for "private game reserve experience" : great service, intimacy and confort. The safaris were also very good and in a part of the Pilanesberg without public... More

Honestly, I was expecting a lot more for the price. At $400/night everything should have been first rate - it was not. First the good - great staff, friendly, personable, and our game ranger Sibo (sorry if I spelled your name wrong), was the best. He knew his business; when there were no big animals to be found he talked... More

We stay here in Jan2013, what can I say except it was excellent, the best lodge I have stayed in Pilanesberg ever. I come to South Africa ever couple of years and this year brought 7 family member with us and I can't recommend Buffalo Thorn lodge more highly. On a weekend away for a friend's birthday we spent a night at Buffalo thorn lodge. There are 5 units and the lodge can only take 10 pax. You have to book the whole lodge (5 rooms x 2) if you want to stay. The whole lodge is self catering. Rememebr to take everything with you as the nearest decent... More

This was an excellent choice for our first safari. I'm not the outdoorsy type so the amenities at this lodge were perfect for me. My husband enjoys camping and the rooms are like log cabins with a thatch roof so he loved it. The rooms are very modern and comfortable. The bathroom is gorgeous & there is a private outdoor... A great quiet bush get-away. Having the option of full board included in the price makes life easier. The rooms are neat and tidy and large enough for children to do their own thing. Rooms are made of wood and thatch and feel part of the bush, but are very upmarket inside. Our room had a wooden deck and pool... More
