I cannot rate Makalali Private Game Lodge highly enough. The entire experience was fantastic, the epitome of 'Africa'. From the amazing accommodation, to the food, to the staff... the entire delivery was exceptional. The animal experiences were phenomenal. We saw everything, and you get so close! The guides and trackers are what really make the experience, they are extremely knowledgeable,... More

We were lucky enough to spend some time at Makalali, camp one, on two occasions. Both times were fantastic! The staff is so dedicated and welcoming, the food is excellent and so beautifully presented, the attention to detail in accommodation, food and on game drives is amazing, and the little personal surprises wonderful! Our ranger Marvel and tracker Godlove went... More

We stayed here for 4 nights at the start of a holiday in South Africa. The Lodge is great with very friendly staff and good food. The game drives were excellent and much enjoyed by our 3 children of 11 and 15, who saw everything they wanted and were really looked after by 2 very friendly and interesting rangers. The... More

We stayed at Makalali for 2 nights and we are going back in April this year again. Why? Because it is a beautiful relaxed place, where my husband fell in love with the bush. There are four camps all with a different vibe. Our personal favorite is Phiva, the most remote of the four. The rooms have a design we... More

Having been here before, we were looking forward to our 2nd visit. What a disappointment!!! Standards have definitely slipped. The service and organisation was so bad, the food truly awful and housekeeping slapdash. The only saving grace was the game drives. Our ranger, Wise, is friendly and enthusiastic and went out of his way to make sure we all had... More

For sure, we can't complain about the lodge. It is not the best one in South Africa but with the ratio quality price is quite good. it always nice too see the real bush with the some professional ranger. You will learn a lot with them and the breakfast and drinks in the bush with the sun raise and sun... More

This game lodge is one of few lodges that really give you value for your money. No pretenses here. Every chalet or building was architecturally designed to blend in with the environment, but at the same time, it was made comfortable for the guests. For example: your chalet's front "window door" can open completely so that you can enjoy the... More

My family and I stayed there for 3 nights and it was amazing! The accommodations were great, luxurious and well-designed and the food was fantastic. Every meal was something new and something super tasty. We went on two game drives a day and our guide, shadrack, was superb! He was well versed in tracking but was also very funny and... More

We cannot fault the staff at this reserve.Issac our safari guide was always smiling, interacted with adults and children (ours 8 and 10) alike and gave us a lot of informative information. His ability to track animals, birds and other wildlife was fabulous. We saw 4 of the big 5 - missing out on leopards but we were lucky enough... More
