My first ever trip to a game reserve and I was really happy to have picked Malala. It felt like our hosts really cared, and my french visitor and I were treated like royalty. Great home cooked meals and warm friendly hosts with awesome scenery and a stones throw away from all the major attrations in the area. An excellent... More

This is a family-owned and run lodge and is convenient to many attractions. We loved the food, the strolls on the grounds, drinks with Pete in the bar and the very special ambience. This is private comfort with every amenity one needs in modest cottages. I can't say enough about the game drive with Pete. He is incredibly knowledgeable, energetic,... More

We spent 3 days in Malala Lodge, for the Easter holiday. The lodge was very clean, comfortable and pretty, eventhough there is not much light. Grazers roam the property, so it is very exotic for Europeans! We loved having our own cottage and having the impression of being miles away from everything and everyone - yet the bar was only... This was our second visit to Malala Lodge and we intend to return often. The Harvey family are the perfect hosts providing everything we could wish for, and breakfast and dinner are delicious and plentiful thanks to Jane & Paul. Pre-dinner drinks in the well stocked bar are lots of fun thanks to barman Pete who also doubles as ranger... More

Visited in Feb 2012, we stayed 5 nights. Warm welcome, not the most modern room but comfortable and has everything you need. Not a criticism but be aware toiletries are not provided in the room and lunch is not available so advise you stock up with essentials before you arrive. Pete, Jane and Paul are great hosts, always ready with... More

We stayed at Malala Lodge for 3 nights on our tour of South Africa last November. The beauty of this Lodge is its remoteness, with wildlife passing through the grounds regularly – while we were there we were surprised to see a few zebras galloping into the grounds - they stopped for a bit of a graze, and then galloped... Dear Peter, Thank you for taking the time to post a review – much appreciated. We agree that the privacy/remoteness of our units is one of the appeals of our lodge. As regards your point on the lack of wi-fi, we certainly understand your frustration. We are also well aware that more and more guests are looking for this facility... More

We have been to places offering more luxurious environments, but this one is right up with the best for making you feel very special. The Harvey's are incredibly good hosts who know exactly how to give you tailormade advice for your stay in the Hluluwe area, provide tasty home cooked food and just give you that priceless home from home... January is not the best time to see game in Hluhluwe and as the Umfolozl was flooding we couldn't access the Umfolozi section. Only a few white rhino, several giraffe, zebra and a dagga boy. However Malala gave us some special moments with our 3 year old grandson and 9 month old granddaughter, with numerous dung beetles, frogs, a tortoise,... More
