Like most of this hotel's clients, I used the Protea as a bolthole during a long connection, after a tiring journey from Australia (looks quite close on the map!). Open door, take shower, lie on bed, take another shower, go to gate, wait four hours for delayed aircraft. This was the first time that I have stayed in a room... More

Travelling 12+12hours total it is simply impossible to wait 8 hours without having a good shower and sleeping, definitely beautiful, nice attendants and "reasonable price" if negotiable. Good quality on soap, shampoo and bedclothes.

The Protea Hotel at the International Airport in Johannesburg is located inside the international airport terminal, before immigration. The location is great for travellers in transit without a south african travel visa. The rooms are clean and of a 4-5 star standard. There is free Wifi in the rooms upto a limit of 100MB per night. This hotel has no facilities (no bar, no restaurant, no breakfast) - you have to use the airside cafes. But the rooms are spacious and well-equipped, the bed is comfortable and they offer 100MB of free internet. If you have an early morning flight, the fact that you don't have to clear customs and security means you get an extra... More

We had a long layover before an international flight. We found this hotel after passing through security and exit customs. The location is ideal. The rooms and bathrooms are large and clean. They have room service although we did not use it. The hotel is more expensive than the nearby off airport hotels. But they prorated our stay since we... More

We use this as a overnight hotel before heading out to Kruger. The shuttle service was good, the hotel staff was friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. Tip: To find the shuttle to hotel. Exit Airport and go across the road to Intercontinental. It's near the taxi and bus stand.

I had a long transit between flights and was dreading the 10hr wait in the transit lounge... but then I saw a sign to the 'Transit Hotel'... I walked up, checked in, and before I knew it I was showered, refreshed and laying in a plump pillowed clean sheeted bed! Excellent value and very very comfortable!

We had a night here courtesy of South African Airlines, after they failed to board us, and 8 other people on a flight to Livingstone. The room was large, clean and modern, with a glass shower enclosure, wash basin and separate toilet. Large fluffy towels and decent toiletries were provided, together with tea/coffee making facilities. The bed was large and... More

The best place to be between two flights. You will immediately feel secure and in peace. The Hotel is clean, comfortable and very practical. You can connect with high speed WiFi, the TV set in your room show you all the flight connection details, coffee machine in room. The price is abit high but it is worth it indeed.
