A mediocre hotel in a quiet semi-rural setting, on the outskirts of Ashburton. Serves all sectors with sports bar and bistro, bottle shop attached and a restaurant. Refurbished but bleak with long empty corridors reminiscent of a hospital or boarding school. Dated reception area and ghostly dining areas totally lacking in charm or atmosphere. Popular tour coach stop-over but nothing... More

This is a very good country town hotel for business travellers. It has everything you need and nothing more. It feels more like a boarding house than a hotel, but it was clean and tidy and although they had some renovation work going, it didn't bother too much. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant served very good basic... More

I have rated the Hotel Ashburton as "average" but you can interpret my rating as good, quite comfortable and sufficient. Don't expect it to compare with an up market city hotel. It is an older style hotel that has been refurbished. The hallways have been painted in greens, orange hues and similar colours reminiscent of the '70's. The rooms appear to... More

Great venue, good location, clean and tidy. The only downside was a lack of working plugs where the jug was located, however they were appreciative of having this pointed out. Definitely somewhere I would go back and stay. Unfortunately I didn't have time to try out the pool. More

It is amazing that such a small town between two major tourist destinations has such a wonderful hotel (conference centre, bar, restaurant...). Recent redecorations have made the place look stunning. Rooms very comfortable and clean. Very friendly staff - and even the General Manager takes time to greet guests and provide some real "Kiwi" hospitality. This place makes Ashburton worth... More

I stayed in Ashburton only because of the earthquake damage in central Christchurch. The Hotel Ashburton is in the process of major refurbishment and I had one of the older rooms, which looked a little tired but was clean and comfortable none the less. The hotel was busy and the buffet dinner was served in one of the function rooms.... More

We stayed for two nights at the Hotel Ashburton with our two kids 2, and 5. The staff were very friendly and understanding about arriving with two tired and cranky kids from being cooped up in a car for hours! The family room was essentially two adjoining rooms, we slept in one, with the kids taking the two single beds... More

We really enjoyed our recent stay at the Hotel Ashburton. The staff were, without exception, welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable, well-appointed and sparkling clean; the lounge and bar area was conducive to conversation; and it was nice to have easy access to the public bar too, where we met a few of the locals. It was fun... More

Ok for the price.....New Zealander's must learn ONE rule in the hospitality business. Having guests is not for the benefit of employees. One madding feature of the New Zealand Hotel/Motel business is the rule of check out! Generally ALL hotels and motels have a check-out time of 10am (check-in at 2pm). This rule is only to benefit lazy laidback Kiwi's... More
