We stayed in a cabin here in September when travelling through Alaska. The cabin was fairly new and very clean and the hosts were very accommodating. There is also a restaurant on the premises that serves good food which was great. This is a good spot to spend a night if you plan to go flight seeing over majestic St... More

We enjoyed our stay here. Our travelling companions stayed in a three bedroom cabin and the sound of the heater kept them awake but it would not have been a problem in warm weather. The cabins were rustic, but had all facilities and were heated and comfortable. The owner told us that it is one of the last two original... More

Thanks to Valori and Greg for providing the icing on the cake at the end of our 2week road trip around Alaska. The cabin had all we could want. Warm and cosy. The additional services were great The on-site restaurant served wonderful food and the bar was really welcoming with very friendly locals. The Historic nature of the site was... More

We spent 2 nights here in room 8. What a wonderful step back in time! There are no keys, just a small latch you can hook from the inside. It was spotless. The bedding was so comfortable. There are 2 shared bathrooms, which are nicely kept & stocked. In the evening, we watched the Olympics on a sofa in the Living... More

Very friendly and helpful hosts and staff. My wife and I stayed in one of the small family cabins which was simple and rustic but clean and comfortable. The restaurant served very good meals and the young staff was friendly and energetic. The lodge is located just off the highway but we did not notice any highway noise.

On our way back from Anchorage, we stayed two nights in Gakona Lodge in Gajkona. We selected this place for several reasons. It is a historic building and had cabins which were more attractive to us than rooms. We were planning to visit Valdez and Gakona village was a good place for us to do a day tour to Valdez... More

We just finished a 5 night stay at the lodge in one of the cabins. We had a private bath and kitchen. The cabin was very clean and rustic, and staying there felt like a true Alaskan experience. The food in the Carriage House was excellent, as were the breakfast muffins every morning. Greg and Valorie and their staff made... More

Gakona Lodge is a little slice of Alaska, an original historic roadhouse. Easy access on the Highway 1. A quiet, rustic, lodge, and rooms are exceptionally clean and fresh. Delicious food, great cook - best continental breakfast ever - fresh homemade muffins and gourmet instant oatmeal. Oh, and try their cheesecake - best we've ever eaten. Can she cook! Greg... More

We stayed for one night at the Gakona lodge, after hiking in Wrangell-St. Elias national park. The rooms in the historic building were cozy and clean, and the downstairs common sitting area was also nice and useful. The red salmon in the restaurant was great, thanks to Valery, the owner and chef. After dinner we headed to the adjacent tavern,... More

Owners were very friendly. We stayed at an historic log house dating from 1905. Felt like little house in the prairie... We got a room overlooking the Gakona river, with private bath. Located near awesome Wrangell NP. No restaurants, no shops. Just nature... Breakfast = delicious mufins and coffee. Thank you Valory!
