We were only there for one night, but got a pretty good feeling of the place. Its not that close to anything, but taxi's are CHEAP around town. I think one way from the cocacola bus station was 2000 colones (approx $4). The reception hosts were friendly and spoke english; gave us all the pertinent information and offered us a... More

Hello! We are very glad you liked our hostel! Thank you for letting us know which things we must improve to be better! Please remember we are about 10 minutes walking from downtown. More

Really enjoyed staying here. Our university group used CRB as a hub in San Jose between trips out to both coasts, La Fortuna, etc. No complaints about the place. Our group particularly liked the chance to meet travelers from around the world and hang out at the bar after a long day of travel.

we stayed in this hostel for two nights in May. The private room was basic but what we really loved was the pool and bar area. The Irish bar man Darragh was a pleasure to talk to and amused us with his story telling and his great cocktail skills. My mojito and cosmopolitan were both delish. We will definetly be... More

It is a great Hostel: Clean, Pool, Restaurant, TV Room, Bar, short all you need. It was like a little oasis in the middle of the City. Also the guys from the trip planning were very helpful. Thats why it is a shame that all these good impressions were ruined by this blond reception guy. When I wanted to check... More

One of the peculiar aspects of the Costa Rica Backpackers is that it is clearly designed to be a party hostel: there is a large bar and restaurant attached, a second bar near a large, outdoor kitchen, and a large backyard with lots of tables for socializing. It was strange, therefore, how subdued the atmosphere was; the restaurant and bar... More

I stopped here three times. When I first arrived, passing through, and on my way home. I met some awesome folks a few whom I traveled with to Panama, shared a ride, or ended up meeting in a different location. The staff was awesome, very helpful when planning activities, giving directions, and also chill to hang out with. The showers... More

I enjoyed my stay there. The location is good, it is a nice walk to the center of the town. The taxi driver wanted to take us somewhere else and kept telling us that the place is full. This hostel does not pay commission to the taxi drivers so you really have to insist.

That's probably the most advertised hostel in Central America! Which was a good thing, as it saved us hours of searching for cheap accommodation in a safe neighbourhood. The dorms are fine, we didn't hear any bothering noise - except maybe for the train, yeah, you'll get used to it before you leave :) I don't know how useful the... More

stayed here 3 days. The pros: in an ok area, has a small pool, lots of hammocks, a big kitchen, free old skool computers to use, lots of lounging areas. They can call taxis for you from the hostel. The cons: there is a bar connected, and several others around. then the train going by in the morning. Good luck,... More

I stayed in an 8-bed dorm with some friends just before we started work on a summer program. Overall, it's an average hostel. The kitchen was clean, the bathrooms had hot water, and there was even a pool and I believe free computers and internet. The atmosphere was good, as well as the staff. The only downside is the sound... More
