Mawamba is located on the barrier island between the Tortuguero Canal and Caribbean beach, just a short walk south to the village. We were volunteering with the Sea Turtle Conservancy which is located between the lodge and the village. The beautiful, well-maintained grounds attract numerous spectacular birds and butterflies. They also maintain a rainforest walk as part of the property... More

This is such a fun part of exploring Costa Rica. Mawamba organise the bus transfers, the boat transfers, boat tours whilst you are there, a walking tour, breakfasts and accommodation. It all works pretty well but the bus transfer was terribly delayed on our way back which delayed our journey to our next location, so beware! However, the lodge itself... More

My party of four stayed two nights at this lodge as part of our REI Multi-sport Adventure. Getting there was half the fun, traveling by water and arriving at the lodge where we were met by employees brandishing wonderful fruit drinks. The cabins were simple, tastefully furnished and spacious...ceiling fans in all rooms...no air conditioning, but then it is an... More

Only good things to say about this experience! Our guide, Ana Maria, was knowledgeable and very pleasant and accommodating. Tortuguero National Park was the Costa Rica that we wanted to see - toucans, egrets, herons, caimans, three kinds of monkey, iguanas, lizards. We enjoyed the boat rides. The guides were able to locate many types of wildlife for us to... More

The other reviews pretty much say it...lovely hotel, though rustic. Long drive/boat ride to get here but worth it. Our tour guide Ana Maria was great, very knowledgeable and fun! We loved the boat rides into the canals, saw many different kinds of birds, 3 different kinds of monkeys and lots of wildlife in general..enjoyed the pool area and the... More

We started our CR adventure with 2 nights at this lodge. You can only get to it by boat or small plane (really) What a fantastic way to experience authentic CR rain forest is a rustic but comfortable way. We were busy with included activities/tours all day long. Make sure you bring a zoom lense camera, mosquito repellent and rain... More

This is a good location because it is very close to the beach and you can walk to the village and to the entrance to the National Park. The resort is well laid out in attractive gardens and the pool and restaurant area is very nice. We enjoyed the boat trips included in out 2 night package, though our group... More

This was the first of many hotels on our honeymoon, it was booked as a package so not sure how much each hotel cost. The hotel is in the middle of the rainforest surrounded by rivers, the only way to reach it is by boat – the journey itself was amazing! On arrival you are greeted with a cocktail. The... More

Although we were worried about booking a group tour as part of our private road trip around Costa Rica we were not disappointed at all. Mawamba Lodge contacted us the day before departure to confirm the meeting point. Impressive service. We joined the bus on the journey to the boat and arrived at the lodge in good time. The accommodation... More

Once at Mawamba it's fun for the kids. The pool has a shallow area and a deep area and a bridge to hide under for a break from the sun. There are iguanas all over the place. There's enough food selection for everyone to find something to eat. There's LOTS of space to play. The beach is not safe for... More
