Well, this is absolutely one of my favourite places to stay whenever I go to Costa Rica. I have been here 3 times (the last trip included 4 kids). Each stay was a pleasure and full of great memories. This is a very remote, yet modernized resort located right on the beach at Playa Grande. Miles and miles of white... More

This place has location, location. Just by the sea but not the really surfy endand within walking distance of Tamarindo ( much nicer than Loneley Planet leads you to believe). It is basic but clean. we stayed in the rustic wooden bungalows and self catered ( do not expect matchign crockery!). When we stayed there was an issue with their... More

I booked a room at Villa Baula because I wanted to visit Playa Grande for one day and Rip Jack and Las Tortugas were both full. This place has an interesting web site and Baula in Costa Rican is for the Leatherback turtle, and I love the turtles. I checked in and the place looked like an old west village... More

We have stayed here many times in the past and have always enjoyed our stay. While we were there this time, there were never more than 4-6 other people in the entire complex. It was like our personal retreat. Our only complaint was the fact the you could only get someting to eat or drink and hour and a half... More

Fifteen of us stayed at Villa Baula this past August. We had a great time. We rented the five double bunglows. They were rustic but clean. The staff was very friendly and patient with us non spanish speaking guests. Food was simple but good. The beach was beautiful and not crowded. Pool was clean. We will go back!!!!

Please be aware that the restauraunt at this hotel is not open and has not been for some time. So unless you plan to bring your own food, be prepared to walk one mile each way to the nearest mini-super or restauraunt. After surfing at the AMAZING Playa Grande beach all day, it was a bit tiring to walk when... More

The website (and the previous review) doesn't do this place justice. We got charming 2 BR cabin on stilts that had a mini kitchen, huge comfortable porch, electricity and hot water. If you don't come with the expectation of a resort, you'll be happy. But it is a bit primitive and isolated, which we loved. You're also right at the... More

Had reservations to this "Eco lodge" thinking it would be a nice. It looks fine on thier website! I think they really meant a dump. The only good point about staying at this hotel was that it is on the beach (almost all hotel the hotels are on the beach!). The screens on the windows all had holes in them.... More
