This fantasy castle built in 1936 -1937 is an amazing find in the hustle and bustle of Shanghai. It is surrounded by gardens and almost surreal. While it may not have the most modern facilities, The Moller did have all we needed - including free wired internet, (wireless in the lobby) multifunction flat screen TV/Computer and high quality bath amenities.... If you don't want a soul-less 5 star hotel and don't have the budget for one of the truly amazing 5 star hotels the Moller Villa is an perfect option. It is a remarkable Hans Christian Anderson style fairytale mansion - that's been pretty well maintained on the whole. If you're not in a suite, you stay in the new... More

pleasant, well-located but not much to do right around the hotel in the evenings, next to highway. opted for this over ruijin because of free in-room internet with computer. concierge helpful during the day. yes, breakfast items are recycled, and water pressure can be very low. massage place listed in the hotel's guidebook is totally overpriced, you should be able... That's what our kids shouted when they saw this magical, fantastical old house in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Shanghai. The house was built in 1937 and beautifully restored. We booked on short notice (two days in advance) and asked to stay in the "old house". We got a very good discount on the executive suite room.... More

Well, whoever said the new building was soulless has clearly never stayed in a Chinese chain hotel. The "new" building is a replica of the original 1920's building, with the addition of beautiful modern stained glass windows and spotless marble floored bathrooms. Our rooms were clean and light with bay windows overlooking the garden. The bed was king size and... More

...with modern amenities and attentive staff. A small oasis of calm, thanks to the private garden, in a supremely bustling city, this former private residence (built 1936) is a boutique hotel with a distinctive style, well worth the price. The location is very convenient in the former French Concession - within easy walking distance for both Metro 1 and Metro... More

We stayed on the second level of the new tower, and our room was spotless without a hint of smoke (a rarity in China). The carpeting in the hallway is ooky and makes the hotel look shabby. Breakfast was uneven -- some delicious fruit, fresh bao, but the three pieces of cheese on the platter looked petrified. Very nice amenities,... More

I totally enjoyed my 4 day stay at Moller Villa - amazing buildings, great comfortable rooms, clean modern bathrooms, nice tiny gym (always empty though). Location is very convenient if you are coming for an exhibition at Shanghai Exhibition Center. Even if not - it's great to walk around the French Concession in the evening, feel like in Paris or... Stunning old mansion with fabulous gardens in French Concession. Pleasant staff with very little English can really make it tough. Stayed in historic wing and would not recommend new tower. Rooms a bit Liberace for my taste but a good value for the money. The hall carpets were truly in need of replacement and there is a moldy smell as... More

We spent 3 nights in the hotel in early June. We arrived early in the morning (2am) and the gate was quickly opened for the taxi. Check in was super efficient and pleasant. Our room looked over a school yard and was well equipped, pleasantly furnished and spotless. Breakfast was acceptable - we have had better for the class of... More
