Guntersville was great place to go, the "crown jewel" of the Alabama state park system, but unfortunately the tornadoes last year devastated the park. It is open, but don't go expecting it to be the way it was. It is in bad shape, and will be for a long time.

We rented a chalet with a gorgeous view over the lake -- winter took the leaves and gave us the view! Great chalet, big rooms, big wraparound deck, fridge, microwave, good food at the lodge. deer were outside the front door but we didn't see any eagles!

Just stayed one night(Jan.7,2012).........The damage done by the storms last year was sad. They really took a hit. I thought the service was great. The beds were comfy, but the pillow cases felt like 60 grit sandpaper. I agree with the others, that the view is wonderful. If only, the staff was as wonderful. I did not feel the southern hospitality. Some staff did not seem to care about the customer.
