The hotel is set in a beautiful park full of monkeys and fireflies at night and looks pretty. The rooms were only barely clean though, the mosquito nets were torn and the walls still bore traces of dead mosquitos. Service was poor and we were told at breakfast (a very frugal one) we had to choose between fruit juice or... More

I've read negative comments on this site previously and often wondered whether they were mostly down to cantankerous travellers, weary, fatigued and generally wanting to vent steam. However, the Tissawewa Resthouse merits all negative feedback written in previous posts... Outrageously overpriced. Unclean. Employees who would be unemployable anywhere else. However, it you want a mildy funny holiday-disaster tale to relate... More

We stayed at the hotel as we wanted to visit the historical and religious places, this hotel is ideal for that as it is in the sacred town itself! After reading the previous comments I was a bit hesitant, however we went ahead as a friend recommended. When we actually reached to hotel I was shocked about all the remarks... More

Anuradhapura is the key city for tourists who love culture and history. The greatness of the city is undermined by hotels of this class. This place could have been kept and groomed in an excellent fashion, but due to pure negligence, it is of sub standard. The food was one of the worst i ever had, as a vegetarian, nothing... More

Nice from outside , terrible inside. No guests, no discounts flat rate for drivers tourist oriented mafis Large dirty rooms with no facilities. You would better level it to build the new. The price 100 Us They want money for nothing, Stay away Typical for the this beautiful country people like those running this venue are killing its potential More

This place is dirty throughout. Over 125 years old and probably last cleaned 124 years ago. Room smelt of damp and urine, bed linen not clean, table linen encrusted with food. Stayed 1 day and left. I would rather sleep rough than pay for this. My wife cried when we were in our room at the thought of having to... More

First, when we drove in from Pollanaruwa, the hotel was tough to find. We paid nearly 100 USD a night--- and had an experience that really was not up to the mark. The bathtub was dirty when we got there, the towels were wet! The food--- well there was no ala carte-- you just HAD to eat what was on... More

After a long drive up from Kandy, this hotel was a welcome rest. We stayed in a refurbished room and could not have been happier. It was well-appointed, clean, air-conditioned and full of interesting detail. The grounds were quite nice and we enjoyed the ample seating on the veranda where we could enjoy a cool drink and decompress. The food... More

We got two double rooms in what appeared to be the refurbished part. The property - the dwellings of a former Dutch Governor - has got lots of character and is set in a semi forested area with plenty of beautiful old trees. The furniture is esthetically okay but frugal. There were only beds in our rooms, i.e. no chairs.... More
