I stayed here for six days, and really enjoyed it. The place has a variety of room types, from traditional Batak bungalows to rooms in a more modern building, as well as several rooms with hot water. I stayed in a more modern room, and could see sunrise and sunset from my balcony, which was right over the lake. The... More

We were looking for a more traditional experience in Lake Toba than the overpriced European owned guesthouses. After searching the web we found just a couple of reviews for Mas Cottages which sounded exactly what we were searching for. We were not disappointed, after moving from one of the aforementioned hotels where we were forced to spend the first nights... More

I was also very surprised at the #1 rating of these cottages! Although peaceful, clean and comfortable (with very hot water), I found the place could be improved with the following changes: - Provide toilet paper free of charge - Change the towels every few days - Provide lounge chairs that do not gouge your back (or at least cushions).... The lake is 3 metres from the door of our room and the water is warm to swim in. The room is clean, the bed comfortable, the staff friendly and the food is great. All at a bargain price. I do not think that anyone should be trying to find faults, be demanding discounts, receiving them and still complaining!!!! The... More

Mas is more. You get wonderful clean rooms with the very best view on lake Toba. Excellent swimming right in front of you. The restaurant is great. You get the best and freshest food. Do not miss the freshly grilled fish with the Batak sauce, of the sate Babi (pork sate). If you're in need of a bit of Western... More

I visited Mas Cottages on Samosir island in october, and I had the most wunderful time. I planed on staying there for a couple of days, and ended up staying at Mas Cottages for 10 days. It´s very quiet and relaxing, and have the friendliest staff I met on my 2 month journey. I stayed in an original Batak cottage... More

We choose  Mas Cottages because of all the good reviews on tripadvisor. We are still wondering why this accomodation gets such good reviews. Ok, the view is excellent, but Sam does not have to do anything for that, thank God! We stayed in 7a, upper appartement. There was no towel, toilet tissue (you have to buy this!!), garbage bin. We...
