Based on what I have read about Maria's Casa, I was expecting the BEST hostel in South America. I do have to say that the staff are very nice and welcoming. But, aside from that, it's pretty average. After a very early morning arrival into La Serena we were welcomed with open arms by Maria, a lovely Chilean lady who allowed us to mess up her kitchen then wouldn't let us clean up. Pancho was also super helpful organising our bikes and giving us yummy fruit drinks in the morning. Highly recommend staying here!

The hostel is family run and everyone is beyond helpful. The rooms are nice and clean, warm shower, all you can ask for after a long trip. Located next to bus terminal within walking distance. Really good value for absoloutely lovely, clean, comfy rooms. Hostel run by a family and they are the nicest people and all a little quirky! They are constantly offering to make you cups of tea, really keen to give you advice and reccomend the best trips, restaurants etc for you. Be sure to visit Pancho's leather workshop in the house....
