The Mango Tree is located in one of the best spots in Rio de Janerio. It's 2 blocks walk to the internationally famous Ipanema beach. THere are also many resturants and shops around the area so if you want to eat out, buy food or buy the Havanavia flip-flops, just walk around for 5 minutes and you will have done... More

We were in the 6 person dorm. Our room was very small and we had to walk through a bigger more spacious dorm to get to our room. But really this didnt bother me at all. The bathrooms were always clean. There is a great common area but the kitchen closes at a certain time which is really annoying and... More

We stayed at Mango Tree over carnival period so the hostel was busy and full of fellow travellers to meet and hang out with. We had an ensuite bathroom which was a bonus but our room was located right next to the common/breakfast area so not the best in terms of noise. Cleaners/other guests didn't exactly keep the noise down... More

The Mango tree hostel was pretty good. We loved the location the most. It was only a 3min walk away from Ipanema beach. It was also close to many bars, restaurants and shops. Our only disappointment were the owners who were a bit ratty and unhelpful. In addition other staff were ok, we didn't feel like they had ANY enthusiasm... More

I stayed at mango tree twice, once in December & again in January. It is a great hostel, with a lovely breakfast, friendly helpful staff and of course a spectacular location. It is a 3 minute walk to the beach and right in the middle of tons of bars and reataurants. The hostel have a board in the breakfast area,... More

I like mango tree. It's pretty basic and they ramp up the prices during peak periods but its clean and close to the beach. It's cool to chill in the (many) hammocks. Our private room backed out into the bar/backyard, at times it was difficult to sleep with the noise but they made an effort to close the bar at... More

We were looking forward to arriving in this hostel after reading lots of really positive reviews and spending a couple of nights in an unpleasant hotel. However the welcome was very unfriendly and we were treated as an inconvenience. Room and breakfast were very basic but ok, it was the service that was disappointing. That said great location 2 minutes... More

Only stayed here for one night. Hostel is located in a great location in Ipanema. I got the impression it was a huge place, a bit impersonal, with tight security measures - havent seen that in any of the other hostels we stayed in over Brazil. Breakfast is OK.

We arrived to Mango on Christmas day. The first impression was not good, room 11 that we had was about 8m2, only a bed, no closet. We shared a bathroom with the rest of the hostel. The room had a window which we couldn't open cause then anyone climbing to the first floor would be looking at us. The first... More
