We stayed at the Gallant during Carnival and enjoyed our stay. It is close to Estacio metro and actually walkable from the Sambodromo. Admittedly it is a love hotel, but the rooms are large, very clean, with air-con, we had a balcony, bathroom was a good size with hot water and I loved the big shower. Breakfast was yummy and...
