Our stay at El Misti Hostel wasn't the best. They advertised aircon in the rooms and lockers, we had neither of these. After paying quadruple the price of what you'd normally pay (due to carnival) to stay there it's the least you expect! After complaining to staff on reception we were given a key for a small deposit box in... More

I ended up staying at this location for the week I was in Rio. I was to move over to Leme but decided to come back. Before making the decision to do so, I also looked into the Copacobana area and Ipanema area. If you are a budget traveler like me, I suggest you consider staying at this El Misti... More

We stayed at the hostel for 4 nights for New Year's Eve 2012/2013. Of course we payed a completely ridiculous overprice due to the season. We stayed in a dorm in a 3 bed bunk bed (!). where the air condition didn't work - all we had was a fan in 40 degrees heat. The staff was present but not... More

I already stayed there twice so it's not THAT bad but anyway it's far from excellent as well. First of all I think the receptionists should be nicer, specially the female ones. There is a receptionist from Chile who is always moody and there is another one from Italy that only talks about how much she desperately wants to go... More

So, this place has 80 or more beds and 6 bathrooms. You can do the math. The place is ok, but the staff are very unprofessional. The employees are all in their 20s and they use the place as their personal party house. I was there for 7 nights. On 2 separate nights people NOT assigned to my room came... More

We've booked on line this hostel from the website, since it looked professional and very central. We requested a double room with private bathroom, since we liked the hostel-style mood, but we need some extras. An airport connection service was included, and there our trip to hell began. The "connection" was operated by a sort of illegal taxi driver, with... More

What I really like about the El Misti Botafogo is the location. It's right in between central Rio and the famous Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. And since the beaches are not as awesome as everyone claims, I think it's good to stay in the middle of the road and be able to reach any places of interest in a couple... More

El Misti's forte is in creating an excellent ambiance. They organize various group activities, and their common areas are set up in a way to maximize the feeling of community. It is an ideal place to meet fellow travelers, find stimulating conversation, get advice for things to do, and partake in communal meals. The best thing to do is sign... More

I was there for 3 nights with my girlfriend. The place is nice, close to the metro station botafogo, to the bus stop that connect the hostel with the main attractions of the city (and airport also).
