It looks nice in the web site and in fact it is not bad from outside. The rooms are nice and spacious. I stayed here on business while in Rio for the Earth Summit. Hotel is right on the beach, so lovely views from the breakfast room and lobby, and some rooms (see tips below). This hotel situated in the end of the beach of Barra de Tijuca is a fair hotel, but unless Brazil uses a 7 star system for grading, the hotel seems to have at least 1-2 stars too much. “Nice location on a less crowded beach”

I stayed at the Tropical hotel for business in the beginning of October 2010. the location is nice on a less than crowded stretch of the beach than Empanema with still beautiful views and just a block from a nice stretch of restaurants and boutiques and near some of the most popular sights such as the Cristo and Sugar Loaf....
