This is a nice, quiet small place, distant from most anything, but still it was enjoyable. The rooms had a small balcony, overlooking some senic hills and small lake. The restaurant had good food, and the servers were all very friendly. The place could use a face lift, but overall it was just fine. We kept our screened door to... More

Stayed there for one night only in October 2011. Had planned on a second night but when we saw the condition of the place we moved on. Very dated, run down and out in the middle of no where with nothing else to do other than the river ride. Restaurant was barely tolerable. Went into a Mexcian place in town... More

Once we got to our room through the maze of hallways, it had an bug smell. Appreciate that there weren't any bugs, but had to buy a renuzit for the duration of our stay. Beds were fine. I wish they would update the shower curtains. I have been spoiled by the curved shower curtains of other hotels. The whole time... More

We were with a tour group, so only stayed one night, so couldn't enjoy everthing they offered. However, we loved our spacious corner room that offered a fantastic view of the New River Gorge and the trees in full color around and below us. The restaurant was so-so, but only choice in this rather remote location. We also took the tram... More

The place is now rather sad. It's old and rather an odd layout. We had a suite which was huge and wonderful. It had fridge & microwave and lots of space. The bathroom was a combination of dated (blue tile in the tub) with new light and sink fixtures. The location is very good for the New River Gorge. Very... More

Ask for a room with a view. That is the best part of the lodge. Also ask about getting to your room. Some rooms are hard to get to regarding the multi-level layout of yesteryear. Price is very reasonable. The restaurant is not very good. And kind of price for what you get.

We stayed here here in August. Although I booked quite a few months in advance there were no gorge view rooms on the upper floors left so we had ground floor rooms. We could only see the gorge if we walked across the grass outside our room. Our daughters loved it though as they were able to feed the young... More

If you stay at Hawks Nest lodge request a gorge view room. Our room was a "forest view", but the air handler for the lodge was behind our room and we could not enjoy the balcony. The folks were friendly especially the state park personnel at the gift shops. I ate in the restaurant for breakfast (quick breakfast is free,... More

We stayed at Hawks Nest for 3 nights and enjoyed it very much. Our room was very clean and the maid service happened whenever we went out. We had a nice balcony ( and could have had two if my husband had not been very tired the night we came in and refused to lug the bags down a flight... More

Pros: Location, It is a time capsule of a hotel built in 1970 Cons: First room offered to us smelled of wet dog, Employee said "its likely coons". We wondered......What are raccoons doing in the rooms, Second room didn't smell but the room was old and outdated and the linens were downright awful for $90 bucks a night. We had... More
