At the end I was satisfied with the ryokan, but we had to change rooms. Good things: fantastic onsen - made of cedar wood, which gave the room a wonderful smell, they have very good cosmetic products there, also it was open till late and even though it is a public bath, I had a nice feeling of privacy. of... I love where this hotel is situated. Located in small one way streets in Kyoto and not frequented by motorists. The staff were excellent and the rooms are so nice. We went on a backpack trip and thought that lying on tatami mats instead of a comfortable western style bed was a mistake but after seeing the room, we wished... More

We stayed in this hotel a few weeks ago. Its in a great location in Kyoto - and we easily hopped in cabs to get to places further away. The people were exceptionally nice although there are some expectations of guests - no shoes in the rooms etc. The rooms were very adequate, although the bathrooms are small but still... More

This is not a real ryokan as the building is not traditional, and it is run by staff in the true sense of the word, not an innkeeper or his family. This means you do get the conveniences of a hotel, with the veneer of a ryokan. You don't get a true (western style) hotel either, because of the lack... More

We stayed at the Ryokan Kohro near the end of a 3-week train trip from Tokyo through Hiroshima. We decided to save the Ryokan experience near the end of the trip before we headed back to Tokyo for some final shopping. The location of Kohro was decent - I would estimate a 10-15 minute walk following the directions. From the... More

After touring Tokyo for 3 days and staying in a fantastic ryokan, we were looking forward to staying in our Kyoto ryokan for the rest of our holiday. This ryokan was a bit dated however, we did try to overlook the issue until we saw that our bathroom was not clean. As we were situated on the top floor, mornings... More

After making a firm decision to stay at a traditional style inn (Ryokan) for the duration of our three day stint in Kyoto, we selected Kohro after much deliberation and comparison of ten different inns we had found on the internet (factors considered were inclusive of cost as we had a pretty tight budget). The austere exterior and sometimes restrained... More

My husband, mother and I stayed at this ryokan during New Years. The location of the ryokan is perfect, just up the street from Nishiki-dori and the main drag. The food here was excellent, some of our best meals were eaten here. The service was just OK. They definately did NOT cater to foreigners. My mother and I are Japanese-American... More

We really enjoyed our stayed at this place. Location is great. 5 mins walk to 4 bus stops which can take you to all temples and shrines around Kyoto. Subway is just around the corner as well. The price include an amazing Japanese breakfast. The room was clean and great feel of Japanese inn. The Ryokan has a public bath... More
