This is a good choice for a downtown Kyoto hotel. Great location near the covered market,s and the river and Gion. Short cab ride to everywhere. Not too many westerners here, but it has all the amenities of a western style hotel. Nice live music in the lobby in the evening, very clean rooms and excellent service throughout our four-night... The staff at the Okura was 1 of the 2 best I experienced in Japan. Almost everyone spoke English (for those who have trepidation about being able to communicate), and their concierge staff was wonderful. My room was small, but very nice and well appointed. The location is good---it's close to museums, the Gion area, and transportation. I thought the... More

For a 125yr old hotel, Hotel Okura is centrally located and maintained a high standard of service. The rooms are well appointed with the essential amenities. The breakfast buffet on the 17th floor was good, and offered both Western and Japanese selections. The down sides are (1) the hotel still uses the traditional metal keys for the rooms, which is... Nice hotel in a good location but we had just left the St. Regis in Osaka so it is a tough comparison. The concierge was very helpful in making dinner reservations but the room was just moderate. The staff was nice but the dining room for breakfast was very unorganized. Some days we had to wait about 10 minutes to... More

I have stayed in Kyoto many times the past few years, and every time I visit I have been told that the Okura is one of the bet, if not the best hotel in the city. Location: The hotel has a very nice location on eastern end Oike-dori, and its size is dominating the scene if you enter the area.... More

The Kyoto Hotel Okura had some of the most excellent customer service I have ever experienced at a hotel; the staff always had a smile, a hello and did everything they could to help. Unfortunately the excellent customer service was let down by several things including the smoke smell in the room. I booked a non-smoking room, and I think... More

I am was in a business trip for 2 days. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. They can see in your eyes if you need anything and hurry to help you. The staff of the main restaurant during breakfast is also so friendly and welcoming. Several restaurant and shopping are close by walking distance. I think it will... More

Just felt great to enjoy the service of this 125 years old hotel. Nice room, great service, and excellent location within 10 minutes walk from the busy street of malls and traditional Japanese stores. The subway station "Kyoto Municipal Station" is just opposite the street of the hotel. For those who is interested in Japanese history, Honnō-ji is less than... More

Rooms were a bit older than others we stayed at. Location is fantastic. Has underground direct access to subway and underground shopping area. Within walking distance to numerous areas. Service from staff is excellent. Our view on 7th floor was limited by roof. If you really want a view, go above 7th floor (note: you have to pay extra for... More

Let me just be honest. There is no compromise in quality assurance for Japanese. When we arrived at Kyoto Okura Hotel, I saw the banner addressing 125th anniversary. The hotel looks really well maintained. Kudos to the team. The room is spacious and whatever is required for a traveler (business or leisure), everything is provided. Breakfast is on the roof...
