I stay at Green Peace for months on end whenever I'm in the Kansai region. Most recently I stayed from November 1 to February 1, and it remains a great little deal in the expensive city of Kyoto. Great location, especially if you're looking for a quiet and more serene atmosphere than hotels in city center. The house is on... More

This is not a fancy three star hotel: it is a guesthouse! Many local guests stay here for a long-term, looking for a job or starters. The landlady herself lives here too, opposite the common living room. Good kitchen facilities, nice neighboorhood (lots of students and education-related-individuals)

In Aug 1985 we cycled in Kyoto with two small children and stayed at Green Peace. It was small, clean and basic but everything what we were looking for. Chikako was pleasant and spoke a few word of Dutch as she had worked in Amsterdam at the Okura hotel. The price of a bed was 1300 yen per bed per... More

This was the worst experience of our whole vacation here in Japan! We could not find a reasonable priced hotel in Kyoto anymore and therefore booked the green peace in Tokyo. As it was very cheap we did not expect to much but what we got when we arrived was even worse! A note on the front door to read... More

I stay at Green Peace each time I visit Kyoto. I stay in a private room anywhere from 1-2 months at a time. The location is ideal: right off trendy Kitayama St, yet close to hiking trails and quiet neighborhood life. It's within walking distance to several restaurants, grocery stores, parks and shops. The subway station is just a couple... More

I'm currently on my second stay (both mid-long term). The fact that I returned is testament enough. Green Peace provides guests with simple yet comfortable accommodation in a quiet location in what is seen as one of Kyoto's most desirable suburbs. In spite of its slightly outlying location, access to public transport, supermarkets and many of kyoto's lesser known yet... More

Green Peace is a pretty cool place to stay. Very relaxed, easy going people. Mostly international students and travelers from everywhere. It was nice because there are also Japanese students there, so you have the opportunity to hear their perspective. I think that the people who wrote really bad reviews have some weird issues. I never saw any bugs or... More

Japan is considered one of the cleanest, safest and most polite countries in the world. I should know. I lived in Japan for 10 years. I returned to Japan after a lengthy absence and wanted a more economical place to stay during my brief visit of three months. I located Green Peace on the internet and was impressed with its... More

Green peace was a very dirty place,if you're thinking about living a long time in Kyoto,Green Peace is not your choice. You'll get sick very soon. Cocroaches and rats will be your room-mates,and the kerosine stove is pretty stinky. The only thing i can say after 'living' 2 years in that 'cave' is: PLEASE, DON'T SPEND YOUR TIME AND MONEY IN... In 2002, the neighbors to my establishment began doing renovations to their home. While renovating their kitchen drainpipe, rats were discovered and the rats left their property and came to mine. The rats were here for only 2 months, then through a series of exterminations, they were eliminated. There have been no rats before or after this time. More

I completely agree with the other review. This place is very dirty and the manager is quite insane. Knocks on your door at 4 in the morning to find out who left a dirty dish in the sink. I wouldn't be able to complain if it was mine, but since she has no idea whose it actually is, she knocks... More
